Red Dead Redemption recently received a new PC mod, titled RDRMP, that brings an early version of multiplayer support for the game. After rolling out on PC in 2024, Red Dead Redemption has attracted the attention of the modding community, leading to quite a few mods becoming popular over time.
Since the turn of the century, Rockstar Games has shown its knack for immersive single-player experiences time and again, with memorable hits such as Bully, GTA 4, and Max Payne 3. Over the past decade or so, it has also found its feet in the multiplayer genre due to the tremendous success of GTA 5's online mode, GTA Online. Almost 12 years after launch, the multiplayer mode continues to get fresh content from the devs regularly, which has also helped the game rope in tens of thousands of players on a daily basis. On the other hand, GTA Online's Wild West equivalent—the Red Dead Online mode in Red Dead Redemption 2—hasn't had the same levels of engagement despite the base game's continued popularity.
Why Red Dead Redemption Will Likely Never Take GTA’s Approach to Characters
Red Dead Redemption and GTA show different sides of Rockstar, and the former is more likely to continue embracing nuanced characters.
While the original Red Dead Redemption doesn't come with a Red Dead Online-like multiplayer mode out of the box, the RDRMP mod by K3rhos addressed this shortcoming on PC when it went live in April 2025. As laid out in its description on Nexus Mods, the project's goal is to follow in the footsteps of notable GTA mods, such as FiveM and MTA. RDRMP is currently still in its alpha stage and is "very barebones and experimental." Even though the mod in its existing state lacks the polish suitable for most Red Dead Redemption players, K3rhos shared that those looking to experiment with its API can try their hand at the same in the meantime.
Red Dead Redemption Gets New Multiplayer Mod
After surfacing for the first time last month, the RDRMP mod was downloaded from Nexus Mods nearly a thousand times. Its developer, K3rhos, is the same person that was also responsible for certain other noteworthy Red Dead Redemption mods, such as the Red Trainer with over 23K downloads. However, with the game's peak concurrent player count on Steam regularly dipping under a thousand players at present, it will be interesting to see if the multiplayer project finds enough active players to pick up pace at any point in the future.
For Red Dead Redemption enthusiasts looking for more replay value, the PC arrival of the game is shaping up to be a boon. With over 400 mods appearing on Nexus Mods itself within seven months of release, the stream of fan-made content for the game doesn't seem to be dwindling anytime soon. The latest multiplayer project could be seen as a sign of the modding community's dedication towards enhancing the action-adventure game going ahead.
