Summary

  • Redfall, the co-op vampire FPS, is getting one final update.
  • Despite its rough start and closure of its developer, Redfall Update 4 is confirmed to be on its way.
  • The update will include an offline mode and more features.

Despite reports that plans for it were scrapped, it seems Redfall is getting one final update after all. Co-op vampire FPS Redfall has had a rough time ever since it was released last year. The game launched to mostly mixed and negative reviews, and failed to generate a significant audience despite being a day one Xbox Game Pass game. Post-launch updates aimed to address fan feedback and improve Redfall, but did little to actually bring people to the game.

Unfortunately, Redfall developer Arkane Austin was suddenly shut down by Microsoft. At the time, the studio was said to be working on a big new update for Redfall that would add important new features. With Arkane Austin's closure, it was assumed that the final Redfall update would never see the light of day. However, it's now been clarified that Redfall Game Update 4 will indeed be released to the masses.

Bethesda Dedicated to Making Redfall a 'Good Game'

Despite the poor reception the game received at launch, Bethesda is dedicated to improving co-op vampire shooter Redfall.

In a recent tweet, the official Redfall Twitter account thanked fans for their supportive messages and promised that Game Update 4 is still in the works with "additional details" coming soon. The tweet teased fans with what they can expect from the final Redfall update, which is said to include revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems, pausing when playing the game in single-player, an offline mode, "and more." The addition of an offline mode should be especially important for Redfall, as it ensures that the game will still be playable in some capacity even if the time comes when its servers are switched off.

Redfall Update 4 is on the Way

Perhaps Redfall Game Update 4 will be enough to convince people to give the co-op vampire FPS a proper try. The Redfall updates that have been released since the game's launch have put it in a much better state, though some of the criticisms levied at it upon its release are still plaguing the game as well.

In any case, Game Update 4 should go a long way in improving Redfall and delivering on some of the promises that were made for the game, though there will still be some unfinished business. Redfall DLC characters were planned to release this Halloween season, but now they will never see the light of day. By extension, this means that Redfall will be unable to deliver the content that was promised by its Bite Back Edition. Microsoft has said that individuals that purchased the Bite Back Edition will be compensated in some way, though details on how exactly have yet to be revealed.
