For a limited time until February 9th, 2026, there is a new 1 v 1 mode in Rematch. This takes place on a new, smaller pitch and features tiny goals that aren't always open. While this mode isn't ranked, players will still want to know how to win more 1 v 1 games in Rematch. Given how fun it is, hopefully the mode will return again soon after it goes away, possibly on a permanent basis.

Rules For 1 v 1 Games In Rematch
First of all, it's best to understand the rules, pitch layout, and nuances of 1 v 1 in Rematch.
- Matches last 3 minutes.
- If the game is tied when time runs out, the next goal wins.
- The Mercy Rule still applies, so going ahead by 4 goals will win the match.
- When you enter the opponent's area, with or without the ball, the goal will slowly slide open.
- Exiting this area will cause the goal to slowly close.
- The goals take over 8 seconds to fully open to their maximum width.
- They take just over 4 seconds to fully close.
- There are no goalkeepers, but players can block shots with their bodies.
- After a goal, the player who conceded starts with the ball near the halfway line.
- The corners of the arena are beveled, allowing for another angle to bounce the ball off.
It's also possible to host 1 v 1 custom games with friends in Rematch. You can also practice solo on the smaller pitch in a custom game.
Tips & Strategies To Win More 1 v 1 Games In Rematch
While being generally good at Rematch and all its mechanics will naturally help the most, the following are some specific tips and tricks for 1 v 1 matches. Hopefully, these strategies will help players win more duels.
Pass To Shoot
With the goals being extremely low and often only narrowly open, it's best to use the pass button to shoo t. This will keep the ball on the floor, and aiming should be easier. Passing can also be done without looking at the goal, so from the side or behind with a back-heel, for example. This pairs well with bouncing the ball off the walls to set yourself up.
The normal shoot button can be used if aimed low and has the advantage of being able to curve the ball. However, goals will often be scored from short range, so passing is faster with no windup, nor the need to face the goal.
Rematch: Best Custom Kits
The best kits in Rematch can be recreations of iconic teams, or players can instead combine complementary colors for unique designs.
Wait Inside The Opponent's Box With The Ball While The Goal Opens
Instead of rushing toward the goal right away, try to slow down play after entering the opponent's defensive area. This will allow the doors on the goal to fully open before you attempt to get past. Similarly, don't let your opponent do this when they attack.
Don't Give Up Chasing When Your Opponent Gets Past You
In other modes or normal football, an opponent getting past you with an open net would be a guaranteed goal. However, as the goal doors will be shut, you still have time to chase them down and put a slide tackle in from behind. There are no fouls, so go all in.
The pitch is so short that you'll always have a chance, especially with the sprint bar or extra effort.
Smack The Ball Of Your Own Corner & Run Onto The Ball
If you get the ball in your own defensive area, consider smacking the ball off the beveled corner. The angle of it will cause the ball to go down the other end of the pitch without your opponent expecting it. You can then run onto the ball, hopefully carrying it to the goal.
Use Skills & Rainbow Flicks To Get Past Your Opponent
In normal games of Rematch with more players, rainbow flicks can be risky. It may take the ball past one player, but then another can easily tackle when the ball lands. In 1 v 1, however, they are a premier way to get past and open on goal. Skills performed on the ground are another option, and are much more useful than in other modes.
When defending, expect your opponent to rainbow flick and stay back to tackle the ball in case they do.
Pass To Yourself Off The Walls
Passing off the walls is normal in Rematch, but with no teammates in 1 v 1, it becomes even more important. Perform one-twos with the side wall to get past opponents, for example, or boot it off the back wall to set yourself up for low headers into the net.
The beveled corner walls are another great option, as the angle can set you up square on goal.
Rematch: How to Do a Bladeshot
A bladeshot is one of the coolest tricks you can perform in Rematch, and it's surprisingly easy to pull off.
When Defending, Don't Rush In
When defending with your back to your own goal, there's no reason to panic and lunge in. They most likely cannot score from this position as the goal is blocked, but if you try to tackle and miss, they have an opening. Instead, wait for them to make a move and respond with a tackle or interception. Patience is key, and it's more likely that they will mess up rather than succeed in getting past.
The Defensive Stance Is Key For Blocking Shots
While it's not possible to be a goalkeeper, players can still block the ball, meaning the defensive stance is key. Stay in this mode when your back is to the goal, and no shots will get past you at close range.
