Hot off a playtest which saw nearly 2 million players jump into the action, Rematch is set to release on June 19th on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. There is also a way to play the arcade football game 3 days early on June 16th, and this ties into the different editions of Rematch available for purchase. This guide will outline the additional content players can expect in these editions and help them determine whether they are worth their investment.
Rematch will be available on Xbox Game Pass on June 19th, but this is only the Base Edition.
What is Rematch, the Game That's Beating EA Sports FC on Steam?
Indie sports game Rematch is sweeping the Steam charts, beating stiff competition from EA and possible signaling a shift for soccer sims.
Rematch Editions Compared
There are three editions of Rematch, with all of them naturally containing the base game. Here are the prices listed on the official site, but expect these to vary depending on your region and preferred store.
- Base Edition: $29.99/€24.99/£19.99
- Pro Edition: $39.99/€34.99/£29.99
- Elite Edition: $49.99/€44.99/£39.99
Rematch Pro Edition
The Pro edition of Rematch will contain:
- Base Game
- Blazon Jewel Set - Cosmetic jewelry
- Blazon Buckler Tank Top - Clothing for the character
- Blazon Pattern - This pattern can be applied to other tops
- Blazon Player Background & Title - For menus
- 1X Captain Pass Upgrade Ticket - This will unlock a paid battle pass
- 3 days of advanced access if this edition is preordered
None of these bonuses will grant players any advantage over other players. Everything is purely cosmetic.
Rematch Elite Edition
The Elite edition of Rematch will contain everything from the Pro edition, as well as some extras:
- Base Game
- Blazon Jewel Set - Cosmetic jewelry
- Blazon Buckler Tank Top - Clothing for the character
- Blazon Pattern - This pattern can be applied to other tops
- Blazon Player Background & Title - For menus
- Blazon Augmented Reality Cage - Skin for the match arena
- Blazon Cap - Cosmetic hat
- Glitcher Trainers - Cosmetic footwear which has a purple trail effect.
- 2X Captain Pass Upgrade Ticket - This will unlock a paid battle pass
- 3 days of advanced access if this edition is preordered
Preorder Bonuses
There are two bonuses for pre-ordering Rematch:
- Early Adopter Cap
- 72 hours of early access (only for the Pro/Elite editions)
Are The Pro/Elite Editions Of Rematch Worth It?
Just like Rocket League and other similar games, Rematch is ripe for incredible customization options, with players able to customize outfits and arenas. However, the cosmetic options available with the Pro and Elite editions aren't great, with many of the Blazon cosmetics looking fairly uninspired.
The standouts are arguably the Augmented Reality Cage and the Glitcher Trainers, but both of these are limited to the Elite edition, which is almost double the price of the Base edition. The Captain Pass Upgrade Tickets could prove to be worth it for those who would go on to buy battle passes anyway, but until the contents and price of these passes are known, it's hard to tell if players are getting a good deal.
Of course, if players like all these cosmetics and have the money to spare, these editions can still be good.
Should You Play Rematch With a Keyboard or Controller?
Rematch requires a lot of fast, precise inputs, so many players are torn between using a controller or a keyboard for their matches.
A 72-Hour Head Start
However, the main reason for buying the Pro/Elite editions of Rematch is to gain access to the game on June 16th, 3 days early, but this only works if players pre-order these editions. If players are buying the game at a later date, then these editions lose a lot of their value.
It's unclear if players will still be able to pre-order the Pro/Elite editions after the 72 hours of early access have already begun, between June 16th and 19th. To avoid potentially missing out, make sure you pre-order BEFORE June 16th.
With Rematch being a competitive multiplayer game, a 72-hour head start can make a difference early on, but in the long run, this won't matter. It's also worth pointing out that plenty of players have experience from the various beta tests.
Conclusion
In summary, if players cannot wait to play Rematch and want to improve their skills as quickly as possible without feeling left behind, then the Pro edition for an additional $10 can be worth it, as long as it's preordered before release.
Otherwise, players are likely better off waiting till the 19th for the Base edition, and once they are in the game, any spare money can be spent on other microtransactions that hopefully result in better cosmetics.
