Summary
- Sloclap's multiplayer soccer game Rematch is hosting a multi-platform beta until May 31.
- Sign-ups are available via the game's official website, Steam, and the Xbox Insider Hub console app.
- Rematch launches June 19 on the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass release.
Rematch, a day-one Xbox Game Pass title scheduled for a mid-June 2025 release, is currently playable early on the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This is due to a newly launched Rematch beta that technically requires an invite, though anecdotal evidence suggests entry is relatively easy—at least on some platforms.
Rematch is the latest project from Sloclap, a Paris-based studio best known as the developer of the critically acclaimed martial arts game Sifu. While Sifu and Rematch share Sloclap's signature painterly art style, they differ entirely in mechanics, with the upcoming title being a multiplayer soccer game, featuring fast-paced five-a-side matches in vivid arenas.
Interview: Sloclap Discusses How Previous Titles Like Sifu Shaped Rematch's Development
The Best War Games sat down with developer Sloclap to discuss Rematch, an upcoming soccer game that emphasizes immersion and teamwork.
Although Rematch is scheduled for release on June 19, Sloclap is now offering fans the opportunity to try the game early. To that end, the company recently launched a beta test, which is available across all the game's target platforms. Since the purpose of the beta is to stress-test Sloclap's network infrastructure, enrollment isn't predicated on pre-ordering the game but is completely free.
How To Sign Up for Rematch Beta Test
- PC: request Playtest access via Steam
-
Xbox Series X/S and PS5: request an invite via PlayRematch.com
- Xbox-only alternative: request an invite via the Xbox Insider Hub console app
While the system for joining the test is invite-based and Sloclap has stated that places are limited, it appears the PC slots remain available. According to The Best War Games’s testing on the afternoon (ET) of May 29, requesting access to the ongoing playtest via Steam results in immediate approval. By contrast, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users must register for the beta through the game's official website. This process also requires signing up for the official newsletter and confirming an email address. Unlike their PC counterparts, console beta invites aren't sent instantaneously, according to The Best War Games’s testing.
The beta for Sloclap's new soccer game is planned to run until Saturday, May 31, ending at 5am PT / 8am ET / 12pm GMT / 2pm CET. As is typical with network tests, technical issues are possible, and the Rematch developer has asked players for patience if they encounter any. Ultimately, identifying bugs, bottlenecks, and similar problems is the primary purpose of such tests, so any issues that surface during this ongoing beta will have an increased likelihood of being fixed before Rematch officially launches.
Rematch aims to offer responsive controls and a variety of mechanics that "capture the essence of football," as Sloclap puts it. The ongoing beta is solely geared toward stress-testing the developer's infrastructure, with the French studio noting it's not yet soliciting player feedback on the game itself.
