Rematch has proven to be one of the most exciting sports games, with players truly feeling like they are football/soccer stars, as every tackle, header, and pass makes a difference. While the game has seen plenty of success, hooking many in with great gameplay, there have also been a few hiccups, and the rest of the game is a tad bare-bones on content, features, and quality of life.
Rematch: 10 Beginner Tips
These beginner tips & tricks for Rematch will help players get more involved in the game, score more goals, and ultimately win more matches.
This list will explore new features and updates for Rematch that players would like to see, but it will not touch upon the upcoming addition of cross-play, for example, as this highly requested feature is already Sloclap's main priority. Players can also check out this official post to see confirmed future additions.
8 Match History, More Stats, & Replays
Aside From Some Basic Stats, Previous Matches Pretty Much Disappear
At the game's release, players cannot see their match history or even any stats from their most recent game. In fact, everything disappears fairly fast right after the game finishes. There's also no way to go back and watch previous games, so the only way to get clips of impressive goals is to be recording while playing.
Adding these features will allow players to look back on matches they excelled in, and advanced stats could help players see where they need to improve. For example, there are no stats for losing possession or per-game stats. It would also be great to be able to compare these stats with general averages. Having an interception rate way above the average could give players some pride, while seeing that they are below average at shot conversions will give them something to focus on.
7 Commends & A Few More Communication Options
Reward Good Team Play & Add The Ability To Ask For Defenders
The current communication options of asking for passes, praising good plays, owning up to mistakes, encouraging the team, and thanking teammates are all great, but there are also gaps in this communication. For example, there is no way to ask for defenders to get back, which can be frustrating for keepers and lone defenders facing three-man counters, or when one opposing striker lingers upfront.
Asking players to pass it off the back wall or telling them a defender is closing in from behind could also be useful. Additionally, when players do encounter teammates who pass the ball, volunteer to go in net, or are solid in defense, it could be great to commend them after the game. This would reward good team play and hopefully encourage positive interactions.
6 Fake Shots
Make Defenders Block & Keepers Dive To Set Up Real Shots
In terms of missing football mechanics from Rematch, fake shots are arguably the most desired. Scoring goals directly without resorting to playing it off the back wall can be fairly difficult against competent keepers, and the ability to fake them out and then shoot after they dive could be a good addition.
Rematch: Achievement/Trophy Guide
There are 37 Achievements for Rematch and 38 Trophies, and as they aren't too hard, players can easily unlock all the Rematch Achievements.
Of course, if fake shots are too easy, convincing, and powerful, then they would be a problem, but with the right drawbacks, such as weaker follow-up shots, they could add more attacking options in a healthy way.
5 Diving Headers
Another Way To Score & Perfect For Highlight Reels
Heading on goal is already possible via the passing button, with players able to control where the ball is directed. Volleys are also great fun, and often the best way to score thanks to their increased power. However, one missing mechanic is the ability to perform diving headers.
These could work similarly to slide tackles, where players must be sprinting to dive for the ball, and timing would be just as crucial. This would give attackers a better way to reach crosses that are slightly out of reach, and doubtless make for some epic highlight reels.
4 Career Mode
A Rewarding Offline Experience
Sloclap has confirmed that they are working on AI-controlled bots to practice against, which will be great. However, down the line, it would also be fun to see full games against bots, and eventually some sort of career mode. This could be incredibly fun with players making their own teams, and it would offer a rewarding way to experience Rematch offline for those who need a break from intense multiplayer games.
The game's prologue also showed promise for cutscenes and storytelling, so it would be interesting to see what the developers could pull off, particularly as their most recent title was Sifu.
3 More Workshops
Some Skills Can't Be Practiced
Rematch already has some pretty great workshops where players can learn and hone their skills. However, more would also be better, as there are some skills that players cannot currently practice. For example, goalkeepers only have The Wall, where three players shoot from the same range.
However, keepers also need to practice against wall rebounds and attackers rushing them, while a training session focused on distribution could also help. There is similarly a workshop for shooting, but aiming at a target isn't the same as having to find creative ways to beat a keeper. There could also be workshops for passing and moving, volleying, and so much more.
2 An 11 Vs 11 Mode
Full-Scale Matches With Rematch's Mechanics Would Be Great
Rematch's mechanics and general gameplay are phenomenal, especially when teammates pass, find space, and defend. Ranked 5 vs 5 games are already incredibly tense, with man-to-man marking and, in more organized games, even rotating formations to some degree.
Best Games To Play If You Enjoy Rematch
If players enjoy the fast pace and arcade nature of Rematch, then they might like these other sports games, even if they aren't all about football.
As a fun experiment, it would be interesting to see 11 vs 11 games with Rematch's mechanics, even if this is just a temporary game mode. Of course, the pitch would need to be bigger, and players may not like having less of the ball, but for those who want to experience being part of a real 11-a-side football game, this could be great.
1 Ranked 3 Vs 3
Perfect For Groups of 3 & Unique From 5 vs 5
Ranked in Rematch is currently only available for 5 vs 5 games, where tackles fly in from every direction and possession is almost always pressured. Some players, however, prefer the openness of 3 vs 3 games, with keepers playing out more, and players having more room to experiment, even though the pitch is smaller.
3 vs 3 ranked games are therefore heavily desired, especially for those who would like to play as a group of three friends, where they can use teamwork to rotate in and out of the net, play balls without looking, and cover gaps on defense. Of course, other players would like to see ranked 4 vs 4, but splitting the queues too much can hamper matchmaking, and 3 vs 3 is more unique, so it should be a priority.
