A gamer recently compared one scene of the original Resident Evil 2 on a modern monitor against one on a cathode ray tube (CRT) TV. This comparison shows how good classic 90s games look on a CRT monitor, as Resident Evil 2 looked much better in the second picture.
Resident Evil 2 was originally released by Capcom back in 1998, and it is often considered one of the greatest games of the 90s. In Resident Evil 2, gamers can control either Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield as they explore Raccoon City. Like other games from the same decade, most gamers likely played Resident Evil 2 using a CRT monitor, which made the title look very different from how it would appear when emulated on a modern computer.
Resident Evil 2 Director Wants to Make a Dino Crisis Game
The director of one of the greatest survival horror games ever made is interested in helming a new Dino Crisis project.
Now, a gamer called Jezza0692 shared two images of Resident Evil 2, which showed Claire standing in a room. The first image was seen on a modern monitor and looked very pixelated, and the protagonist’s face was not very easy to see clearly. The second one, which was from a CRT TV, looked much better, as all the objects and Claire’s face were easier to visualize. It’s unknown what system Jezza0692 was using when he took these screenshots, though. However, the game was likely being emulated on a modern computer, and Jezza0692 either used a proper CRT monitor or an emulator with a CRT filter when taking the second shot. In any case, the post received over 1,100 upvotes, with most commenters talking about how amazing the game looked on the CRT monitor.
Original Resident Evil 2 Compared in Raw Pixels and CRT
When gamers try to play Resident Evil 2 on modern computers, they have several options to choose from. They can either get Resident Evil 2’s PC port from platforms like GOG or emulate the game. Jezza0692’s post, however, gives players a good reason to either look for an emulator with a filter or get a CRT if they want to revisit the classic.
Many gamers love CRT monitors, and some of them even use them to run modern games with a retro aesthetic. Some time ago, for example, one gamer played Minecraft using a CRT monitor, and the results looked pretty good. In the picture shared by the player, it was possible to see Minecraft in black and white and with the old-school CRT aesthetic filled with horizontal lines. CRT TVs are getting increasingly popular again these days, and hopefully, more gamers will get to experience classics or even try out new games using them.
