UPDATE 1/8: Capcom has officially announced the Resident Evil 2 remake demo for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, meaning it's not Xbox-exclusive as previously believed. Original story follows.
Capcom has made no secret of the fact it enjoys remaking and rereleasing older Resident Evil games onto whatever current console is out at the time. While a number of games from the franchise are playable on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the upcoming Resident Evil 2 steers away from the rest as a full-fledged remake of the hit 1998 survival-horror adventure. While the remake will release in the next few weeks, it looks as though Xbox One players will have a chance to try the game out for a limited time throughout the month of January.
Late last year, the Xbox store leaked information about a timed demo of Resident Evil 2 coming shortly before the game's release. The demo is reportedly going live in just a few days on January 11th, and will offer players a 30-minute time limit to play the demo with as many lives as they'd like. The catch, however, is that it appears the demo is only coming to Xbox One.
This isn't the only Capcom demo players can expect to see in the next few weeks. In preparation for the release of Devil May Cry 5, Capcom is expected to release another demo sometime in February. As far as exclusivity goes, however, PlayStation 4 looks to also be receiving the same playable demo.
The Resident Evil 2 demo is reported to be playable until January 31st, a few days after the game's release. The remake sees an entire restructuring of the original game, swapping out the traditional fixed camera views of the franchise's first three titles in return for an up-close, over-the-shoulder third-person perspective. While the original vision of the game has been modernized for current generation consoles, multiple demos have revealed a number of horrifying iconic enemies will be returning for the journeys of both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.
For those interested in what to expect gameplay-wise from Resident Evil 2, the game's full trophy list was just revealed recently. Resident Evil 2 is just the beginning of Capcom's latest surge of remakes and ports of older games in the franchise, with the Nintendo Switch expecting to receive of number of Resident Evil titles in the near future.
Resident Evil 2 releases on January 25th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
