The remake of Capcom’s beloved survival-horror title is just around the corner, as Resident Evil 2 releases this Friday. A couple of days ago, Capcom released a launch trailer, that counts down to the Raccoon City incident. Now, the studio has dropped a remake of the 1998 live-action trailer for the original game, the latter of which was produced by Night of the Living Dead  creator George A. Romero.

To the uninitiated, Romero essentially invented the modern zombie that we know of today, with the genre having a massive influence in movies and video games, including the first Resident Evil. After the groundbreaking success of the first game, Capcom immediately went into developing Resident Evil 2 and hired Romero to direct and produce a live-action trailer that was only released in Japan. The publisher and developer's live-action trailer for the 2019 survival-horror release takes inspiration from Romero's original work.

The new live-action trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake shows the game’s protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield traversing the nightmarish streets of Raccoon City while fighting off hordes of the undead. Although the footage doesn’t indicate anything new about the upcoming remake, it is still a perfect tribute to Romero’s creation, and hits that nostalgic feel that Capcom has been throwing at fans ever since the conception of the game.

Several days ago, Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 2 remake will be getting a DLC, allowing players to use the original character models of Leon and Claire. Capcom confirmed that this particular DLC will be a paid one during release, but will eventually be free to all players starting March 22.

Another DLC that will be heading to the game in the future is a new mode called Ghost Survivors. This expansion will be released for free and will feature randomized scenarios that allow players to explore Raccoon City as one of the game’s minor characters. At the moment, no release date has been announced for Ghost Survivors, which is expected given that Capcom is still occupied with the main game’s release this Friday.

Taking all of this in consideration, it seems that Capcom has been ticking off all the right boxes when it comes to remaking games, especially after RE2  continues to receive stellar reviews all across the board. Given the massive attention and praise that the game is currently getting, it seems that Resident Evil 2 remake is a solid contender for Game of the Year.

Resident Evil 2 releases January 25, 2019, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
