Resident Evil 3 Remake has now been out for just over a week and has been doing well among both critics and regular Resident Evil players. Although the game's future in terms of DLC looks bleak, the game has performed solidly sales-wise between digital platforms and physical sales.
Specifically, the game surpassed the sale of two million game copies, accruing both digital and physical sales copies in its first five days of release following its April 3 release. The success of these sales is nearly 50% due to the game's digital sales performance, which has been attributed to Capcom's "digital sales strategy." In other words, the downloadable demo for Resident Evil 3 and the open beta for its multiplayer pack-in, Resident Evil Resistance are both accredited for contributing to the digital success of Resident Evil 3.
This comes a few months after the announcement that 2019's remake of Resident Evil 2 sold better than the 1998 original. Currently, Resident Evil 2 Remake sits at 6.5 million units in sales while the Resident Evil series, as a whole, has now sold 95 million units entirely.
According to a statement regarding the Resident Evil series and Resident Evil 3 Remake from Capcom, the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis sold 3.5 million units in total. The statement also makes mention of how Resident Evil 3 Remake is a retelling and reimagining of the original Resident Evil 3 that includes the asymmetric multiplayer title, Resident Evil Resistance.
As of right now, Resident Evil 3 Remake currently has no plans for DLC. This is according to a leaker who also noted that new updates will still be coming to Resident Evil Resistance.
Further, Resident Evil 3 received a patch today for performance issues. At launch, the game didn't quite reach the level of technical prowess on Xbox One X as seen on the PS4 Pro or PC despite the console's graphical capabilities. As such, Capcom has attempted to amend the situation by dropping Resident Evil 3 Remake's resolution to make room for an upped frame rate and overall performance on the Xbox One X. Hopefully, the game is now consistently on par with its PS4 Pro and PC counterparts.
Resident Evil 3 Remake is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
