The Resident Evil 4 Remake has many Easter Eggs and secrets for players to uncover, including several Easter Eggs from the original game. In chapter 3 of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the lake holds a secret moment for players to discover that is completely missable unless players know it exists.
Some veteran Resident Evil 4 players are trolling newcomers by convincing new players to shoot the lake, which also contains various treasures and other goodies to find, like weapons. However, shooting the lake at a particular point may have surprising and unavoidable results for unsuspecting players. It's one of many ways the game tries to catch players unaware, including tricking veteran players themselves into a false sense of security in certain areas, like during the village opening chapter.
What Happens If You Shoot The Lake In The Resident Evil 4 Remake?
In chapter 3, players use binoculars to witness a cutscene of a couple of Ganados dumping a body into the lake before they later find fuel for the boat. Regardless of whether players activate the cut scene or miss it, if players stand on the wooden dock next to the boat and shoot the nearby lake water several times, a giant monster jumps out of the lake. The lake monster instantly kills the player, shifting to a first-person perspective as the enormous mouth chomps down from above. The screen then goes black, and a message appears in red stating 'You Are Dead' with the option to continue, load, or quit the game. Therefore, before attempting to test the lake monster secret, it's best to create a game save file on a typewriter to begin again.
The Del Lago lake monster is a fun Resident Evil 4 Remake Easter Egg that reflects the original game's 2005 release, where if players shoot the lake the monster similarly pops out of the water and swallows the player whole but from a third-person perspective, followed by a continue screen. There are many other Easter Eggs and secrets to find in the remake. However, the lake monster is perhaps one of the most infamous and memorable moments from the original game, so it's pretty cool for many to see the reference in the remake.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
