During the latest Nintendo Direct, Capcom revealed that the two most recent mainline entries in its storied Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, are both coming to Nintendo Switch 2. This massive, hour-long Nintendo Direct served as the stage for a new look and release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the first-ever teaser and title reveal of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the timed exclusive Switch 2 launch of Hades 2's 1.0 version, and the confirmation that the upcoming Resident Evil entry, Resident Evil Requiem, is releasing on Switch 2 day one.
The Resident Evil 2 remake may have been the title to jolt the Resident Evil franchise back into the limelight in 2019, but two years before that, Capcom flipped the script with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, giving it the series' first-ever first-person perspective and introducing a new protagonist in Ethan Winters. Its 2021 follow-up, Resident Evil Village, continued its first-person experience and Winters' storyline, but amped up the dreamlike zaniness with its cast of strange, monstrous villains like Lady Dimitrescu and her posse in and around a snowy European castle infested with violent lycans, a far cry from the typical Resident Evil zombie experience. While both games are currently available on the original Switch via cloud streaming, it seems high time for them to make their way onto the Switch 2.
Resident Evil Requiem PS4 Version Possible
It seems as though a PlayStation 4 version of the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem is potentially in the cards.
Resident Evil 7 and Village Switch 2 Release Date
- February 27, 2026
Perhaps one of the biggest pieces of news at Nintendo's latest Direct event was that Resident Evil Requiem is coming to the Switch 2 on day one. However, this was accompanied by the news that both Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village will also arrive on Switch 2 on the same day, February 27. While unconfirmed, it's expected that the Switch 2 will be able to run the native versions of these games without having to utilize cloud streaming.
With both of these games coming to Switch 2 on the same day as Resident Evil Requiem's release, fans on Nintendo's latest console won't have a chance to catch up on these titles in time to take part in the Resident Evil Requiem hype and conversation. Nevertheless, one can't help but wonder about when Capcom's new remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 will also follow suit onto the Switch 2. Perhaps these titles may come around by the time the next Resident Evil remake releases, which is heavily rumored to be either Resident Evil Code: Veronica or Resident Evil 0. Still, with Requiem coming in just a few months, it'll be a while before Capcom will be ready to reveal its next RE remake.
With Resident Evil Requiem landing on Switch 2 day one, it can be presumed that, from now on, all future Resident Evil games will arrive on Switch 2 the exact same day they release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. For now, February 27 is Resident Evil Requiem's big day, and Switch 2 owners are surely thrilled to get their hands on that, RE7, and Village all at once.
