Fans of the Resident Evil franchise have hope that Capcom will announce Resident Evil 9 at some point soon. There were some that expected Capcom to reveal Resident Evil 9 at the latest PlayStation State of Play event, but that came and went without any involvement from Capcom's incredibly popular survival-horror series.
Still, the Resident Evil 9 announcement is just a matter of time. Capcom has released something related to the Resident Evil franchise every single year since 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake, with Resident Evil 3 dropping in 2020 alongside the Resistance multiplayer game, Resident Evil Village releasing in 2021, and the Re:Verse multiplayer game launching in 2022. 2023 saw the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, but so far, it seems as though 2024 is going to come and go without a new Resident Evil game.

While fans shouldn't expect a new Resident Evil game for 2024, it's reasonable to assume that the next game in the series could still be revealed this year, based on the frequency that the previous games hit store shelves. Those hoping for a Resident Evil 9 reveal are now pointing to a newly-created Metacritic page for the game that lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions, but provides no other information. Now, the Metacritic page doesn't necessarily mean that anyone at the company has insider info on a Resident Evil 9 reveal happening soon, and so fans should keep that in mind. Still, that hasn't stopped some from having their fingers crossed that RE9 will be unveiled at The Game Awards in December.
Resident Evil 9 Page Shows Up on Metacritic
2024 won't see the release of a new Resident Evil game, but it's totally within the realm of possibility that the next game in the series will release in 2025. If so, fans shouldn't hold their breath that such a game will be released early next year. Monster Hunter Wilds has a February 28, 2025 release date, and so if Resident Evil 9 is coming next year, chances are it will be later on.
In the meantime, Resident Evil 9 isn't the only game rumored to be in development at Capcom. Reputable insiders have suggested that a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is in development in addition to a remake of Resident Evil Zero. Time will tell if there's any truth to those rumors, but it seems that the next game in line is RE9 and not a remake.
