Summary

  • Resident Evil Requiem features Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy as playable characters.
  • A third playable character may be Alyssa Ashcroft in flashbacks.
  • Capcom plans to reveal more details at Gamescom in August.

The playable characters in Resident Evil Requiem, aka Resident Evil 9, are Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, but it seems as though there may be a third. Resident Evil Requiem was the shock end-of-show announcement at this year's Summer Game Fest, with Capcom finally pulling the curtain back on its next survival-horror adventure.

The Resident Evil Requiem trailer confirmed that the new game will feature Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft of Resident Evil Outbreak fame, as one of the main characters. Grace is working for the FBI during the events of Resident Evil Requiem, and she is tasked with going to a hotel that was apparently the scene of her mother's mysterious murder. Based on the trailer, Grace winds up getting captured and strapped to a table, but it's unclear what exactly is going on.

Resident Evil 9 Leak Reveals Scrapped Open World Multiplayer Concept

A reputable Resident Evil insider reveals scrapped plans for the upcoming Resident Evil 9 while also confirming the game's main character.

Prior to Resident Evil Requiem's reveal, it was claimed that the new game would feature Leon S. Kennedy as the main character. Leon was not obviously visible anywhere in the Requiem trailer, but reliable insider AestheticGamer has confirmed that Leon is the "main" playable character in Resident Evil Requiem. It's also possible that Alyssa Ashcroft herself will be playable in flashbacks, a possibility touched on by AestheticGamer in their breakdown of the RE9 trailer.

Resident Evil Requiem Alyssa Ashcroft Sequence May Be Playable

The Resident Evil Requiem trailer shows brief snippets of Alyssa Ashcroft investigating the hotel where she was allegedly murdered. AestheticGamer said in a tweet that this sequence "may or may not be playable," but if it is, that means RE9 technically will have three separate playable characters. There's not enough to go on in the trailer to determine one way or another, but fans can at least count on Leon and Grace being playable in Resident Evil Requiem when the new game launches on February 27, 2026.

RE9 Playable Characters

  • Grace Ashcroft - Confirmed
  • Leon S. Kennedy - Confirmed
  • Alyssa Ashcroft - Possibly in flashbacks, but unconfirmed

Resident Evil Requiem's release date is only seven months away, and fans can count on Capcom to reveal more details about it between now and then. We know for a fact that Resident Evil 9 will be at Gamescom in August in a playable state, so one has to imagine that plenty more information about the game will be revealed then. And since RE9 was the big announcement from Summer Game Fest, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that the game will make an appearance at The Game Awards 2025, which is also hosted by SGF creator Geoff Keighley.
