PlayStation 4 gamers that have yet to upgrade to a PS5 may be in luck, as rumor has it that the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will be releasing for the older console. Resident Evil Requiem, aka Resident Evil 9, was first revealed at Summer Game Fest in June. Requiem then showed up at Gamescom in August with an extended look that provided more insight into protagonist Grace Ashcroft's backstory, but there is still a lot about the game that has yet to be revealed.
For example, it's been heavily rumored that Resident Evil Requiem will feature Leon S. Kennedy as a second main character alongside Grace Ashcroft. Reliable insiders have insisted that Leon is indeed in the game and that his sections will be more action-oriented, while Grace's sections will be more horror-focused. Fans can expect more information on Resident Evil Requiem to come to light in the months leading up to its February 27, 2026 release, and that info may include a Leon reveal as well as additional platforms it could be releasing on.

Resident Evil Requiem Rumored for PS4 and Switch 2
According to Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer/Dusk Golem, it seems that a PS4 version of Resident Evil Requiem is happening. This version is expected to be running on "different tech" and won't have all the bells and whistles as the versions of the game releasing for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. It's also believed that the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 as well, though it's unclear if the weaker versions will be available alongside the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S counterparts when Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27.
It's been 12 years since the PS4 launched, and we are five years deep into the PS5 generation, so some fans may be surprised to hear Capcom is seemingly bringing Resident Evil Requiem to the platform. The fact of the matter is, the PS4 is one of the most popular video game consoles of all time, and it has a huge install base. Bringing Resident Evil Requiem to PS4 will help the game sell even better than it would have otherwise, though by the same token, it may hold the project back. It will also mean we still haven't had a true "next-gen" Resident Evil game, as other recent entries in the series have also been released for the PS4.
2020's Resident Evil 3 remake was released for both PS4 and Xbox One, while the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Village were both released for PS4. Capcom recently blamed the lower-than-expected Monster Hunter Wilds sales on the PS5's high price, and so it's really not all that surprising that Capcom is potentially considering a PS4 port of Requiem.
Of course, fans should take this information with a grain of salt. Resident Evil Requiem has not actually been confirmed for PS4 or Switch 2 at the time of this writing, and it's entirely possible it will skip those platforms. It's possible some clarification will come at the big Capcom Tokyo Game Show event on September 24, but that remains to be seen.
