Summary

  • Resident Evil 9 could be announced during the Summer Game Fest 2025, hinted by recent sales.
  • Rumors suggest Resident Evil 9's release date may fall between January and March 2026.

A prominent leaker has recently highlighted that a new sale of most Resident Evil titles could indicate that Resident Evil 9 will be announced during Summer Game Fest 2025. Resident Evil 9 is all but officially announced, and there’s a big expectation that the title could be revealed soon, which would be huge for fans of the franchise.

Resident Evil Village, the last mainline entry in Capcom’s popular franchise, was released back in 2021. The title was followed by the highly-acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake, and various leaks and rumors have surfaced regarding the next mainline entry in the franchise since then. Recently, rumors indicated that Resident Evil 9 could be unveiled during the upcoming Summer Game Fest 2025.

One Character Has Hopefully Survived Resident Evil 9's 'Reset'

Development on Resident Evil 9 reportedly started over a few years ago, so one can only hope that one character wasn't left on the cutting room floor.

Now, prominent leaker Aesthetic Gamer, also known as Dusk Golem, has pointed out that there’s a big Resident Evil sale happening right now, with titles such as Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition having its lowest price ever. Dusk Golem also highlighted that while sales of Resident Evil games are somewhat frequent, the sales are happening across all platforms with the same prices, which could indicate a special moment. Deep discounts are often offered when new entries in popular series are announced, so this fuels the speculation that Resident Evil 9 could be unveiled during the Summer Game Fest 2025 livestream, which will happen on June 6.

Big Resident Evil Sale Could Point Out to an Upcoming Announcement of Resident Evil 9

If the announcement does happen, it would be coherent with other recent rumors. Last month, for example, another insider indicated a possible release date for Resident Evil 9, with indications that the game could be out between January 1 and March 31, 2026, after being announced during the event.

Dusk Golem has also talked about other possible releases in the horror franchise, also indicating that Resident Evil 9’s launch in 2026 will be followed by two other games. A remake of Resident Evil Zero could be out in 2027, with a Resident Evil Code: Veronica one being released in 2028. However, the Resident Evil Zero remake allegedly had “some form of dev change” six months ago, so it may end up swapping places with Code Veronica.

On the other hand, other rumors indicate that Capcom is not working on a Resident Evil 5 remake, despite considering the project a possibility in the future. Obviously, gamers should take all of these rumors with a grain of salt, as there’s no official indication that Resident Evil 9 will, in fact, be released in 2026.
