Summary
- Luis Serra relies on Red-9 handgun & skill, making him a valuable sharpshooter.
- Alfred Ashford uses a sniper rifle with impressive accuracy, preferring distance combat.
- HUNK, the Grim Reaper, showcases expertise with SMGs and pistols from afar.
In the world of Resident Evil, where zombie and B.O.W outbreaks are a common occurrence, being skilled with high-power weaponry can be a massive boon. After all, getting up close and personal with these monsters is a surefire way for a survivor to be killed or at least infected, so having someone on the team who is laser-accurate with their shots and can take down an enemy without hesitation is essential.
Resident Evil: 8 Most Relatable Characters
In a world full of zombies and mutants, these Resident Evil characters still manage to feel grounded and realistic.
On the other hand, there have also been several Resident Evil villains who have boasted impressive sharpshooting skills, leading to some very tricky boss fights as a result. After the Raccoon City fiasco shook the world to its core, many people realized they would need to know the ins and outs of using a firearm to keep themselves safe, but the characters below are among the very best when it comes to overall sharpshooting skills.
8 Luis Sera
Luis Can Cut Anyone Down To Size With A Few Blasts From The Red-9
Resident Evil 4
- Released
- January 11, 2005
- ESRB
- M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Language
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
Unlike Leon, Luis doesn't enjoy carrying around an arsenal of weapons to help him fend off swarms of Ganado. Instead, he travels light, packing only a Red-9 handgun to keep him safe. After using it for so long, though, Luis has clearly mastered using this small but explosive weapon, as proven when he takes down more than his fair share of Ganado during the cabin assault.
Since Luis seems to have little to no combat abilities, it makes sense why he would rely on this fan-favorite handgun so much, making him an invaluable ally to Leon and Ashley any time they find themselves cornered by the latest batch of mutants or Ganado enemies.
7 Alfred Ashford
The Maniacal Ashford Never Leaves The House Without His Trusty Rifle
Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X
- Released
- March 21, 2001
- Platform(s)
- PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4
The first time Claire meets Alfred in Code Veronica, the head of the palace can be seen carrying around a sniper rifle, which he seems more than happy to use on his newfound target. Thankfully, Claire was hiding behind a pillar during the confrontation to ensure she couldn't be hit, but Alfred still displayed pretty impressive marksmanship skills when he almost popped her head off after she tried to peek around the corner.
Resident Evil Games With The Best Blend Of Horror And Action, Ranked
The balancing act between horror and combat is difficult, but these Resident Evil games balance the scale best in the whole franchise.
The fact that Alfred showed up with this sniper already in hand demonstrates that he's someone who takes great pride in his weaponry. While he may not be very reliable at taking down his enemies at close range, from a safe distance, he can deal some significant damage.
6 Jill Valentine
Years Of Fighting Against Bioterror Have Turned Jill Into A Crackshot
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
- Released
- November 10, 1999
- ESRB
- M For Mature 17+ Due To Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
When Jill first sets foot in the Spencer Mansion at the beginning of the first game, she's a rather timid and naive character who is clearly out of her depth, just like many of her comrades. After countless years of fighting against all sorts of weird and horrifying mutants, though, Jill has become pretty efficient at using weapons in her missions, whether it be in the form of a pistol or even a giant railgun.
In Resident Evil Death Island, which is the most recent canon story in the series, there's a scene where Jill can be seen hitting her shots in target practice with 100% accuracy, proving just how much she's learned over the years. During Resident Evil 5, she was even able to aim her SMGs while flipping around the environment when she was still being controlled, causing plenty of trouble for Chris and Sheva as a result.
5 HUNK
Umbrella's Grim Reaper Is Highly Trained In Dealing With His Enemies From Range
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
- Released
- November 10, 1999
- ESRB
- M For Mature 17+ Due To Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
HUNK earned the name "Grim Reaper" due to his habit of embarking on suicide missions and miraculously making it out with his life intact. As Umbrella's most valuable agent, HUNK has been trained in using all kinds of weapons, though he mostly sticks to SMGs and pistols, so that he can remain laser accurate when taking down his foes.
In the 4th Survivor bonus mission, for example, HUNK is able to take down entire hordes of bloodthirsty zombies with only a very basic selection of firearms at his disposal. Though he hasn't been seen in the series for quite a while, longtime Resident Evil fans are still well aware of just how dangerous this mysterious agent truly is.
4 Barry Burton
The S.T.A.R.S. Gun Nut Has Wielded Some Powerful Firearms In His Time
Resident Evil HD Remaster
- Released
- January 20, 2015
- ESRB
- M For Mature 17+ Due To Violence, Blood and Gore, Language
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
In the first Resident Evil game, it was established that Barry has long been a little bit of a gun nut, always carrying around ultra-powerful weapons in case any mutants try to get the jump on him. In the first mainline entry, Barry was taking out zombies left and right with his handgun, but in Revelations 2, he's able to use a much broader range of guns, including assault rifles and snipers.
Resident Evil: 9 Strongest Characters, Ranked
The Resident Evil games are filled with terrifying monsters, so it's no surprise that there needs to be strong characters out there to beat them.
In the Resident Evil 5 Mercenaries mode, Barry was even able to unleash his iconic magnum, which can kill most Majini with a single shot. He's also adept at using snipers, primarily the Dragunov, which he whips out whenever someone tries to fight him from a distance.
3 Jack Krauser
When He's Not Attacking Leon With His Knife, Krauser Will Barrage Him With A Rain Of Arrows
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
- Released
- November 17, 2009
- ESRB
- M For Mature 17+ // Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Language
- Genre(s)
- Shooter
In the Operation Javier mission of Darkside Chronicles, it's established that Krauser is a highly skilled soldier who is more than capable of holding his own in a fight, not only because of his hand-to-hand expertise, but also his effectiveness at using firearms. By the time he reappears as one of Saddler's lackeys in Resident Evil 4, though, his mind has become completely corrupted, though his sharpshooting skills remain fully intact, and even better than they were before.
Krauser uses his explosive arrows to throw Leon off guard any time he tries to close the gap, and to say Krauser is accurate with his bow would be an understatement. This grizzled veteran was able to lock onto Leon in no more than a few seconds, and though he prefers fighting with his knife, Krauser is certainly no slouch when it comes to attacking from range.
2 Piers Nivans
The BSAA Youngster Knows Exactly How To Keep His Aim On Target
Resident Evil 6
- Released
- October 2, 2012
- ESRB
- M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes
- Genre(s)
- Third-Person Shooter
At the beginning of Resident Evil 6, Chris, one of the most iconic protagonists in the series, is a mess. After losing so many comrades and with seemingly no end to bioterror incidents in sight, Chris drinks away his sorrows in a bar, until eventually, he's confronted by an up-and-comer in the BSAA by the name of Piers. After getting Chris back on his feet, Piers acts as a loyal companion who, most of the time, acts as more of a leader than Chris does.
He may not have as much experience as Chris, but Piers more than makes up for this with his firearm expertise. His Anti-Material Rifle, which is exclusive to him, can penetrate even the hardest of J'avo shells from miles away. Piers also prefers to keep his assault rifles semi-automatic so that he can take pot shots from afar without needing to worry about recoil.
1 Leon S. Kennedy
When He's Not Roundhouse Kicking His Enemies, Leon Is Popping Off Heads From Close To Long Range
Resident Evil 2
- Released
- January 21, 1998
- ESRB
- M For Mature 17+ Due To Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
From rookie cop to a special agent working under the president, Leon has come a very long way since Resident Evil 2, and in that time, he's become a highly dangerous marksman who can use pretty much any weapon put in his hands. As Leon explains at the beginning of Resident Evil 4 Remake, his training after Raccoon City was brutal, but it eventually turned him into somewhat of a supersoldier.
During his mission to rescue Ashley, Leon pulls off some incredible sharpshooting feats. When Ashley is pinned against a wall by three thin locks, for example, Leon was able to chip each one off without misplacing even a single shot, which would have killed her. Another indication of how good Leon's aim is comes when he throws a knife at Salazar's hands, without even needing to aim. Simply put, nobody is beating Leon in a shootout, though many have tried.
