The rumored Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is reportedly a big-budget project, comparable with Capcom's recent remakes, a well-known leaker has said. The claim, however, appears to contradict what the same source previously said about the purported reimagining of Resident Evil Code: Veronica.
The latest information comes from Dusk Golem, an individual with a substantial track record of credible Capcom scoops. In late May 2024, the insider became the first to report that Capcom was developing a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica.
A Code: Veronica Remake Could Have One Big Advantage Over Previous RE Remakes
The possibility of a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake might come with a big upside over the last few previous ones in the series.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake May Have RE4-Like Budget After All
In an August 22 social media post, Dusk Golem mentioned hearing that the purported Code: Veronica reimagining would have a "big budget" comparable to the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. The rumor was offered in response to one fan expressing hope that Capcom would make a remake worthy of the original, perhaps one that spends more time on the Ashford family. Context aside, the claim appears to contradict what Dusk Golem reported in September 2024, when they suggested the Code: Veronica remake may not be "as ambitious" as its Resident Evil 4 counterpart.
At the time, Dusk Golem did not comment on the rumored Code: Veronica remake’s budget directly. Instead, they merely suggested that future remakes might not match the scale of the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 reimagining, which Capcom reportedly views as "the crown jewel of remakes." The new claim is thus not entirely contradictory but indicates a shift, with Dusk Golem now implying that the new version of Code: Veronica may be more ambitious than previously suggested. The same reasoning could apply to the still unconfirmed Resident Evil Zero remake, another project they have reported on since mid-2024.
The August 22 tweet also saw Dusk Golem state that the rumored Code: Veronica remake is handled by largely the same people who worked on the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. According to their prior insights, the modernized version of Resident Evil Zero is likely to hit the market before the Code: Veronica remake.
The Resident Evil franchise will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026. Capcom is set to commemorate it by releasing the ninth mainline entry, Resident Evil Requiem, which is scheduled to launch on February 27. Dusk Golem previously reported that the Resident Evil Zero remake and Requiem may wrap up development around the same time. Even if that proves accurate, Capcom could still sit on REZ for a while, as the company has historically avoided launching multiple major series entries in the same calendar year.
