If recent rumors are to be believed, the Nintendo Switch 2 could soon be the home of multiple Resident Evil games. While the Resident Evil franchise debuted on the OG PlayStation, the survival-horror series has always had a close relationship with Nintendo. Resident Evil 2 was ported to the Nintendo 64, while the Resident Evil remake, Resident Evil Zero, and Resident Evil 4 were all timed-exclusives for the GameCube. Various other Resident Evil games have been released on Nintendo platforms over the years, though Switch 1 owners have largely missed out on the latest and greatest that the series has had to offer.
The Switch 1's lack of power meant that Capcom simply couldn't release some of the newer Resident Evil games for it, though it wasn't for lack of trying. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 7, and Resident Evil Village had cloud versions on the Switch, but needless to say, that is not an ideal way to play those games. The Resident Evil 4 remake, meanwhile, skipped the original Switch entirely.

Resident Evil Games Rumored for Switch 2
- Resident Evil 7
- Resident Evil Village
- Resident Evil 2 (Remake)
- Resident Evil 3 (Remake)
- Resident Evil 4 (Remake)
- Resident Evil Requiem
Now it seems that these recent Resident Evil games will be ported to the Switch 2 with native releases that aren't shackled to the cloud. According to reliable Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem/AestheticGamer, Capcom is working on ports for Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes. The Switch 2 should definitely be able to handle these games considering they all released on the PS4, and so it wouldn't be surprising at all if Capcom does announce RE Switch 2 ports. The franchise's 30th anniversary is coming up, and bringing Resident Evil games to the Switch 2 would be a great way to celebrate. It's also rumored that the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will be releasing for Switch 2 as well.
It's quite possible Resident Evil fans won't have to wait for 2026 to roll around to find out about Capcom's Switch 2 plans. Rumor has it that the Resident Evil 7 Switch 2 port is actually going to be announced as early as this week at the rumored September 2025 Nintendo Direct. Nintendo has not yet confirmed if the September 2025 Direct is real, but reliable leakers have insisted that it's happening and Super Mario's 40th anniversary is right around the corner, so it would be very surprising if such an event doesn't take place. Whether Resident Evil 7 makes an appearance is another matter entirely, however.
A special Capcom event will take place at Tokyo Game Show on September 24 at 7:00am PT, so even if RE7 on Switch 2 is a no-show at the rumored Direct, perhaps it will make an appearance there. Whatever the case may be, Switch 2 owners wanting Resident Evil games for their home console/handheld hybrid should definitely keep an eye out for announcements.
