Resident Evil is a long-standing franchise that has hooked players with its incredible characters in each horror game. Though some characters have become fan favorites that they have loved, other characters, such as the villains of Resident Evil, although just as equally loved on some occasions, have done plenty of things that make them easily hateable.

Despite only being side characters in their respective games, these Resident Evil characters would be great in a leading role.

While some players may simply hate a character because of their design, other characters in the Resident Evil franchise have done plenty of horrendous things that have made them hateable for valid reasons, from stealing a father's child to starting a zombie apocalypse. Therefore, these are the most hateable characters in Resident Evil, ranked.

WARNING! This article contains spoilers for various events within several Resident Evil games!

8 Nemesis

A Juggernaut That Destroys All

  • Featured In: Resident Evil 3

Nemesis is one of numerous powerhouses of the Resident Evil franchise, with his altered appearance and physical raw power proving that he's a monster players shouldn't be messing with. This creature not only caused him to be hated by players but also traumatized many of them, too, with one of the first encounters in Resident Evil 3 with Nemesis having him kill Brad Vickers in front of Jill Valentine.

The hate for Nemesis continues due to his apparent immortality. Like Mr X, it didn't matter how many times a player assumed they had defeated Nemesis; he would always come back for more, and he was always able to find the player, too, no matter where they were.

7 Alexia Ashford

She Experiments On Those She Deems Beneath Her

  • Featured In: Resident Evil: CODE Veronica

There is nothing a player hates more than a character who thinks they are better than everyone else. Alexia Ashford is a prime example of this, as, although she may be an incredibly intelligent person who was made from the DNA of the long-dead matriarch of the Ashford family, Veronica, she proceeds to experiment and talk down to those she feels are beneath her family name.

Alexia Ashford started her reign of evil with a bang when she turned her father into a monster using the virus, and she then went into a 15-year cryosleep to harness this power for herself. Once awoken again, Alexia didn't wait to attack Claire and Steve, who were trying to escape her home with her new plans to make them her next test subjects. Her intelligence made her arrogant with the belief that she would be powerful, though in the end, she was defeated like the rest.

6 Ramon Salazar

A Short Noble In Control Of A Whole Army

  • Featured In: Resident Evil 4

Ramon Salazar is by far one of the most interesting villains players have encountered in the Resident Evil franchise. Players shouldn't be fooled by his short stature or childish tendencies, as Ramon is a nefarious villain in Resident Evil 4 with an entire army under his command using the Plagas parasites, which he plans to use with Osmund Saddler, the main villain of the game, to eventually take over the world.

Despite still being alive and kicking, these Resident Evil characters probably should have bitten the dust a long time ago.

A lot of the hateability of Ramon Salazar comes from his behavior within Resident Evil 4, as he constantly mocks Leon Kennedy when he encounters him. With each moment pushing the player closer to enjoying the moment, they can finally get to the end of Ramon Salazar for good.

5 Lucas Baker

The Twisted Black Sheep Of The Baker Family

  • Featured In: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard provides players with a whole family of hateable characters, though out of all of them, the one family member that players will likely hate the most while playing is Lucas Baker. Even before they were all under the control of Eveline, Lucas Baker was considered the black sheep of the family, as players uncover the story of how Lucas had trapped one of his childhood bullies in the attic to allow them to die of thirst and starvation.

Lucas is also a member of the Baker family, who eventually breaks free from the control of Eveline but chooses to stay to do the bidding of the company known as Connections, where he continues to do many horrendous things, including the Saw-like puzzles he puts Ethan through.

4 Osmund Saddler

World Domination Through Kidnapping A President's Daughter

  • Featured In: Resident Evil 4

While there's nothing new about the idea of world domination in the Resident Evil franchise, Osmund Saddler took things a couple of steps further by kidnapping the daughter of the President of the United States, Ashley Graham. Not only did his plans involve kidnapping an innocent woman, but he hoped to infect her with mind-controlling Plaga parasites in the hopes of sending her back to do their bidding in gradually taking over the world.

If this plan wasn't nefarious enough to cause players to hate him, the cheesy encounters with this cult villain in Resident Evil 4 are sure to have players looking forward to the moment they finally get to defeat him.

3 Mother Miranda

Experimenting On Villagers And Stealing Babies

  • Featured In: Resident Evil Village

Cult leaders are one of many in the Resident Evil franchise, with Mother Miranda joining their ranks. After becoming infected by the mold in a cave, she used the power and knowledge gifted to her by it to begin her century-long experiments with the mold on the nearby villagers of the isolated mountain town.

With Mother Miranda hoping to use the mold to bring back her deceased daughter, this cult leader believed that stealing the baby daughter of Ethan Winters and splitting her into multiple pieces would be the solution to finally bringing her back. While a small few may feel empathy towards her, wishing to do this, her actions throughout Resident Evil Village prove that she is beyond saving.

2 Albert Wesker

A Weapon With No True Loyalty To Anyone

  • Featured In: Resident Evil

While Albert Wesker may be arguably one of the most loved villains in the franchise, this doesn't stop him from also being a viable option as one of the most hateable due to the actions players have witnessed him commit in multiple games in the Resident Evil franchise.

Originally working for Umbrella, this already highlights him as being a terrible person due to the actions of this company, but Wesker is only made worse when he breaks away from the company, not to fight back, but instead to find more power for himself. With Albert Wesker constantly trying to kill Chris Redfield, who luckily always fights him off, there is nothing Albert Wesker wouldn't do to cause mass extinction to bring forth a new evolution of humanity.

1 Oswell E. Spencer

The Source Of All Evil In Resident Evil

  • Featured In: Resident Evil 5

Unsurprisingly, out of all the characters players have encountered in the Resident Evil franchise, one of the villains that is easily the most hateable is Oswell E. Spencer. This rich elitist is someone that players have rarely encountered in the Resident Evil games other than Resident Evil 5. Even without encountering Oswell, he has been acknowledged as being the source of most of the evil that can be encountered in various games of the franchise.

Being the founder of the infamous Umbrella organization, Oswell is the reason the mold has broken free in many areas, with his team doing plenty of unethical experiments while also creating many of the other hateable characters of the franchise.
