Capcom has made some of the most memorable characters of all time, and they reutilize them across a plethora of games. Resident Evil is no exception, even though it's one of their darker series. Still, Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield can stand next to Mega Man from his titular series or Ryu from Street Fighter without it being that weird. Resident Evil started in 1996 and has been going strong ever since, creating new characters and bringing back old ones off and on.
6 Best Resident Evil Trailers, Ranked
These trailers from the Resident Evil franchise were iconic during the time of their release.
Some characters have been left in the dark, like Sheva Alomar and Carlos Oliveira, but instead of the forgotten characters, let's track what characters have been in the most Resident Evil games, from mainline titles and spin-offs, to crossovers.
This list will focus on console and portable games and ignore things like mobile games as they are too hard to track down, seeing as many only released in Japan. Also, skins or costumes in other games like Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Rainbow Six Siege, and Fortnite will not be counted.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is an on-rails shooter that retells the events of Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, so Rebecca is a hero in that. She can be played in Resident Evil 5’s The Mercenaries mode and the 3DS game, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. She has a separate mode in Resident Evil 4 and the 2023 remake, which is when she took on more of a cunning role. Resident Evil 6 features her heavily as there is a clone of her running amok, but later players can unlock the real Ada’s campaign.
She’s playable in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles like Rebecca, and also like Rebecca, she appears in Dead by Daylight. Finally, Ada is a playable character in the online modes for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil Re:Verse. Notably, she was almost featured in Resident Evil Village, but her role was cut.

HUNK appeared in The Mercenaries mode for Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and the overall game of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is the closest Hunk came to a story role, but was only made playable in a separate online mode.
7 Resident Evil Games With The Best Gameplay, Ranked
The gameplay of these Resident Evil games is unmatched thanks to their amazing and unique mechanics, as well as satisfying gameplay loops.
Hunk is in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil Re:Verse. One of his more fun inclusions was the Raid Mode in Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which were both like online RPG shooters. As a side note, HUNK’s data can be hacked into Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 with a cheat device, but he was never officially finished for either game’s release on PS2, so they don't count.

Claire Redfield appeared as one of the two main playable characters in Resident Evil 2, along with its remake in 2019. She got a spinoff game, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which was then turned into an on-rails shooter called Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica. Another on-rails adventure, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, mainly covered the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.
Claire disappeared in story games somewhat, until she reappeared in Resident Evil: Revelations 2 when she was partnered with Moira Burton, Barry’s daughter. Claire can be found in several multiplayer modes for games like Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and Resident Evil Re:Verse. Her funniest appearance was in the obscure PS1 snowboarding game Trick'N Snowboarder.

The first time players could enjoy his gameplay was in a separate mode in Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, and then he was also added into the aforementioned multiplayer mode in Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. The HD remaster of Resident Evil 0 added Wesker Mode, which replaced Billy as Rebecca’s partner for the entire campaign.
Wesker was featured in The Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. He can be played in Resident Evil: Revelations 2’s Raid Mode, and he even got a new campaign in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. He was a playable fighter in Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds and became one of the killers in Dead by Daylight, which are two great roles for him.

He was part of the three main campaigns in Resident Evil 6 and was partnered with Helena Harper.
Resident Evil: 7 Protagonists Who Deserve More Games
Certain Resident Evil protagonists are pushed to the side in favor of others. Here are some who deserve to be featured in more games.
Resident Evil Gaiden is one of the odder spinoffs that Leon starred in along with Barry Burton on the Game Boy Color. Leon can be played in various modes within Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Resident Evil Re:Verse, and as a guest character in Dead by Daylight. Like Claire, he also appeared in Trick'N Snowboarder. Most interestingly, Leon is a solo unit in the 3DS tactical RPG Project X Zone 2.

Jill Valentine is one of the two original playable characters from Resident Evil, which includes the GameCube and DS remakes. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis gave Jill a more solo run, along with its 2020 remake. She was a big part of Resident Evil 5 but wasn’t made playable until DLC later. Fans can enjoy her in the already mentioned Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Resident Evil Re:Verse, and Dead by Daylight games.
Resident Evil: Resistance was another multiplayer game that focused on a new set of survivors, with Jill being the only main guest character. She was the main character in Resident Evil: Revelations and got partnered with Parker Luciani, but was only made playable in Raid Mode for Resident Evil: Revelations 2. She can be found in crossover roles within Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Project X Zone, and Project X Zone 2. Lastly, Under the Skin is an obscure Capcom game on PS2 involving an alien copying human identities to conquer Earth, with Jill having a playable role via this cloning talent.

Chris Redfield made his debut in Resident Evil and the already mentioned GameCube and DS remakes, and there are very few games he is not involved in. He got into Resident Evil 2 for a separate mode, which was odd since it didn’t include Jill. Chris had a main role in Resident Evil – Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Survivor 2 – Code: Veronica wherein he finally got reunited with his sister Claire. The events of the previous games were retold in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
Chris had a main role in Resident Evil 5, partnered with newbie Sheva Alomar. He had a campaign in Resident Evil 6 with his partner, Piers Nivans. He made it into DLC for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and got one of the wilder end roles in Resident Evil Village as a support for that game’s star, Ethan Winters. He appeared with Jessica Sherawat in Resident Evil: Revelations and was made playable in Raid Mode for that game’s sequel. Chris can also be enjoyed in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil Re:Verse, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Project X Zone, and Project X Zone 2 to close things out.
