Although Resident Evil Requiem will not be released until February 27, 2026, several details about the ninth mainline entry in Capcom's signature survival horror franchise remain unanswered.
During the conclusion of the 2025 Summer Game Fest Showcase, Capcom surprised fans by revealing Resident Evil Requiem for the first time. After Resident Evil series producer Jun Takeuchi initially asked fans to wait a little longer for more news about the next title, the ruse was unraveled a short time later to the shock of the audience. Resident Evil Requiem will take players to the ruins of Raccoon City, as FBI agent Grace Ashcroft investigates a crime scene at the remains of the Wrenwood Hotel. Years before the events of Requiem, Grace's mother, Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, was murdered at that same hotel.
Don't Expect to Play a Resident Evil 5 Remake Any Time Soon
The latest info on the Resident Evil 5 remake suggests fans will be waiting quite a while for the game.
Although the Summer Game Fest Showcase held plenty of surprises and left fans with some questions, a source claims that Resident Evil players will not wait long for additional details about the upcoming project. On June 9, insider AestheticGamer stated that an official news drop about Resident Evil Requiem would take place a couple of days from their post, and said it would happen before Friday, June 13.
More Resident Evil Requiem News Could Drop Later This Week
Though no further details about what this could mean were provided, other users took guesses as to what Capcom or its partners would show off about Resident Evil Requiem. Following the game's reveal, Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley said that a playable demo of Resident Evil Requiem will be available in August during Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Keighley will also host Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19.
As of this writing, the only known details about Resident Evil Requiem are its February 27 release date and that it will run on Capcom's RE Engine with new ray tracing and lighting techniques. AestheticGamer had previously confirmed days prior that popular Resident Evil protagonist Leon S. Kennedy would be playable in Requiem alongside Grace, though details about his involvement remain elusive.
Given that both Leon and Alyssa were Raccoon City survivors, only time will tell how that connection will tie into Grace's FBI investigation. Though Resident Evil Requiem still has secrets to tell ahead of its February 2026 launch, it remains to be seen what details Capcom will divulge beforehand.
