With fans excitedly counting down the days to the highly-anticipated launch of Resident Evil Requiem on Feburary 27, early rumors of potential DLC have already stirred up hype once more, particularly because it teases the possibility of Resident Evil Outbreak protagonist Alyssa Ashcroft becoming a playable character. Resident Evil Requiem features dual leads Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa, and the alleged chance for Grace's mother to return in Requiem as a player-controlled character has quickly sparked enthusiastic speculation among community members.
When Grace Ashcroft was first revealed as the new character in Resident Evil Requiem, longtime Resi fans immediately drew the connection to Outbreak's Alyssa Ashcroft, who many considered to be one of the most underappreciated names within the RE franchise. Alyssa Ashcroft was an investigative reporter who managed to escape Raccoon City during the outbreak incident and went on to expose the illegal experiments being conducted by the Umbrella Corporation. While investigating the Wrenwood Hotel, Alyssa Ashcroft was murdered, leaving her daughter Grace to follow in her mother's footsteps and become a technical analyst for the FBI. With Grace now set to delve into her own horrific journey in Raccoon City, many have been excited to hear early rumblings of Alyssa's potential return as a playable character.
Resident Evil Requiem May Feature Massive Open Levels
A new game trailer is once again fueling speculation that Resident Evil Requiem may feature an open-world design with massive environments.
Will Resident Evil Requiem Be Getting DLC?
Reputable Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem revealed "murmurs of a RE9 DLC starring Alyssa" that could be among the future content updates to Resident Evil Requiem. Early trailers and teasers for Requiem have shown Alyssa and Grace in cutscenes together, but developer Capcom has only confirmed Grace and Leon as the playable characters in the game. Of course, there is always the possibility that Alyssa may have a playable section or two in the form of a flashback sequence, though this remains a point of pure speculation. Some have pointed to the DLC for both Resident Evil 7 and Village as evidence of newer Resi releases including post-launch content, leaving many hopeful that the "murmurs" heard by Dusk Golem will prove to be true. The Alyssa DLC rumor comes alongside other possible teasers from Dusk Golem, which have included hints at special gameplay details for Resident Evil Requiem.
It is important to remember that even the most trustworthy of leakers can get things wrong, not only because information can become muddled when bouncing from source to source but also because development plans can change on a whim, meaning even the most truthful and accurate insights can simply become false later on due to alterations behind the scenes. That said, it would make sense for any potential Resident Evil Requiem DLC to focus on Alyssa Ashcroft, as it could help to expand prequel lore that enhances the overall story of Requiem and offers more background to protagonist Grace. On the other hand, fans have already spotted what they believe to be an unannounced character in Resident Evil Requiem's latest gameplay trailer, which could offer an entirely different direction for any DLC updates.
Capcom has presently made no official indication of having any DLC planned for Requiem, but the reintroduction of Alyssa as a playable character or even the addition of more fresh faces to the franchise would certainly be a welcome sight among veteran and first-time fans of the Resident Evil series. From already returning characters like Leon to the reveal of new locations in Resident Evil Requiem, the latest installment in the legendary RE franchise is certainly shaping up to meet audience expectations. Resident Evil Requiem launches for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 27.
