A credible insider has claimed some exciting new gameplay details for Resident Evil Requiem, including vehicular traversal and Last of Us Part 2-style combat. With Capcom set to officially reveal Resident Evil Requiem gameplay in the coming days, the highly-anticipated ninth mainline entry in the survival horror series could feature some impressive upgrades on that front.

If Resident Evil Requiem Adds a Second Protagonist, It Should Study One Game Closely

Following 2021's Resident Evil Village, there's been a lot of hype surrounding the next chapter of the franchise. After multiple purported internal delays over the years, Resident Evil Requiem was finally unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025 a few months ago. The reveal trailer confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will take the series back to an annihilated Raccoon City, essentially picking up after the events of Resident Evil 3. Moreover, Grace Ashcroft was confirmed as Resident Evil Requiem's protagonist, and leaks suggest that Leon Kennedy will star in the game alongside her.

Resident Evil Requiem Reportedly Allows Players to Traverse Open Levels with Vehicles

Though Resident Evil Requiem's setting and graphical fidelity have impressed fans, many wonder what its gameplay could look like. Some preliminary tidbits, like the ability to switch between first-person and third-person in Resident Evil Requiem, were officially confirmed, but larger details remain under wraps. Reliable Capcom insider Dusk Golem has stepped up to the plate and shared some new alleged Resident Evil Requiem gameplay details in a recent Twitter thread. A notable bit of info the insider revealed is that Raccoon City will feature open levels, among other areas, and there will be a vehicle to traverse them too.

Capcom is apparently working to achieve good performance in Resident Evil Requiem's open levels, and 60fps should hopefully be on the cards too. Aside from that, Resident Evil Requiem's combat looks to be getting a big shake-up. Leon Kennedy's segments in Resident Evil Requiem will reportedly draw heavily from Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 2, with enhanced stealth mechanics, fluid melee interactions, and an emphasis on tense, methodical encounters. Meanwhile, gameplay sections featuring Grace will focus on environmental interactivity, allowing players to creatively dispatch enemies using objects in their surroundings while balancing light and darkness as part of the core survival loop.

Should Dusk Golem's information hold true, Resident Evil Requiem's gameplay may well be among the best and most innovative in the series. Vehicular traversal would be quite an interesting addition, because while previous Resident Evil games have allowed players to drive a car or take control of boats, aircraft, etc., Requiem could integrate this mechanic into its gameplay instead of reserving it for certain sequences. The rather brutal combat style of The Last of Us Part 2 would likely adapt well for Leon too, given he's likely going to be older and more jaded in Resident Evil Requiem.
