Summary
- Signs point to Leon Kennedy being Resident Evil Requiem's main character.
- Speculations arise from the trailer, suggesting Leon's return with clues like what looks like his Jeep in front of the R.P.D.
- A reliable leaker has also said that Leon is the game's primary main character.
The signs pointing to Leon Kennedy being Resident Evil Requiem's main character keep growing, despite there being no official confirmation yet. Leon has been a fan-favorite for years, thanks in large part to starring in some of the series' most popular entries, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. It seems likely that he'll return to the franchise in Resident Evil Requiem as fans dig up new evidence.
Capcom revealed Resident Evil Requiem at the Summer Game Fest on June 6, and speculation immediately followed. The official trailer confirmed that the game will take place at least partially in Raccoon City and will put players into the shoes of Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak's Alyssa Ashcroft. However, fans aren't convinced Grace will be the only playable character, and there's good reason to believe the rumors.
Resident Evil 9 Confirms Shock Return to Raccoon City and Surprise Main Character
Capcom caps off the latest Summer Game Fest event by revealing Resident Evil Requiem, also known as Resident Evil 9.
Notable leaker AestheticGamer, who also goes by Dusk Golem, has claimed Leon will be Resident Evil 9's main playable character, and the insider has a history of accurate predictions and leaks. Beyond that, fans on Reddit have begun to uncover details in the Game Fest trailer that seemingly hint at Leon's return. One user noticed what appears to be Leon's Jeep sitting in ruins in front of the Raccoon City Police Department, the character's former workplace. Another thought an out-of-focus picture on the wall of one scene looked like Leon in Resident Evil 6. Another, perhaps more convincing, sign is that Nick Apostolides, who voiced Leon in his most recent appearances, now lists a "AAA Video Game" on his resume website that he can't name because of an NDA. Some fans think that could be Requiem.
Fans Notice Subtle Signs Suggesting Leon Kennedy Is in Resident Evil Requiem
The game's setting lines up with these theories, too. As the trailer confirmed, Resident Evil is returning to Raccoon City for the first time in 23 years, potentially symbolizing the series going back to, or at least paying homage to, its beloved earlier entries. One of the most popular of these titles featuring the city is Resident Evil 2, which marks Leon Kennedy's franchise debut.
These "signs" could be just wishful thinking. Some of the in-game details could be little more than Easter eggs. Still, it's hard to ignore how it all looks together, especially in light of earlier rumors of Leon's return. Fans may not need to wait too much longer to learn more, either. Dusk Golem has predicted that more Resident Evil Requiem news is coming out soon, and the leaker did correctly predict Capcom's re-reveal of Pragmata at the recent State of Play.
