A new piece of fan art imagines Resident Evil protagonist Sherry Birkin in The Walking Dead franchise. The image itself comes from the first episode of AMC series which sees the character read the infamous "Don't Open Dead Inside" writing on a door. The Resident Evil art is the latest in a series of memes and crossover images that have been associated with The Walking Dead quote.

Way back in 2010, the first episode of The Walking Dead debuted on AMC. The series quickly became one of the network's biggest hits and went on for eleven seasons with a rotating cast of characters. The show has remained one of AMC's biggest intellectual properties and currently has several spin-off series in development, including one show focused on franchise favorite Daryl Dixon. Perhaps the most famous image associated with the series came from one of its earliest moments.

In the first episode of The Walking Dead, series protagonist Rick Grimes sees a door that says "Don't Open Dead Inside" after waking up in a hospital. While some have argued that The Walking Dead never lived up to the series premiere, the words on the door took on a life of their own. In a recent post, Reddit user Rastifan imagined Resident Evil character Sherry Birkin as the one who read the words, as she looks cautiously around the room. The version of the character appears to be modeled after her appearance in Resident Evil 6.

Sherry Birkin was originally introduced in Resident Evil 2. The daughter of antagonist William Birkin, Sherry was primarily featured in Claire Redfield's story and was even a playable character in the game's remake. Ultimately she was able to escape Raccoon City with Claire and Leon Kennedy. Small bits and pieces of information scattered throughout the franchise have revealed what happened to Sherry Birkin after Resident Evil 2, but the character remained largely absent from the series after the second installment.

Sherry Birkin would eventually return to the franchise in Resident Evil 6 as one of the game's various protagonists. In it, she teamed up with Albert Wesker's son, Jake Muller, and spent a good chunk of the game's time trying to make sure the character did not end up like his father. Unfortunately, Resident Evil 6 is generally considered to be one of the worst entries in the franchise and it's not clear when or if Sherry will be seen in any future installments. For the time being, fans will have to stay content with seeing the Resident Evil character in fan art crossovers with The Walking Dead.
