  • Long-time Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem predicts that Capcom will strike a marketing deal with Nintendo for the rumored Resident Evil Zero remake.
  • The new version of Resident Evil Zero is still expected to be a multi-platform title.
  • The Resident Evil Zero remake will reportedly wrap up development around the same time RE9 does, making it unclear which one will be released first.

The rumored Resident Evil Zero remake is likely to prompt Capcom to strike a marketing deal with Nintendo, a well-known leaker believes. Their claim suggests that the reimagining of Resident Evil Zero will be a day-one release on the Switch 2.

Long-time Capcom leaker Dusk Golem reported that a Resident Evil Zero remake was in the works back in May 2024. That occasion also saw them claim that the Japanese developer was remaking Resident Evil Code: Veronica.

Resident Evil Has Earned Another Break from Leon Kennedy

Leon Kennedy's popularity with modern audiences has exploded thanks to Resident Evil's recent releases, but Capcom can give him some space for now.

Eight months later, Dusk Golem has once again taken to Twitter to offer what they described as some "educated speculation" regarding the near future of the Resident Evil franchise. According to them, the possibility of Capcom striking a marketing deal with Nintendo for the Resident Evil Zero remake is "highly likely." Although the original game debuted in 2002 as a GameCube exclusive, its rumored reimagining will plausibly be available much more broadly even if Capcom and Nintendo do partner on marketing it. Dusk Golem expects the Resident Evil Zero remake to "release on everything," either on day one or eventually.

Why a Nintendo Marketing Partnership Is a Bold Prediction for Resident Evil Zero Remake

The leaker's newly shared theory is a fairly bold prediction, not least because the bulk of Capcom's Resident Evil marketing efforts hasn't had anything to do with Nintendo for years now. As far as the company's modern reimaginings are concerned, both the Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 remakes were announced at PlayStation events. Were Capcom to truly pursue a marketing partnership with Nintendo for its next remake, it would have to break this pattern of PlayStation event reveals.

Resident Evil Zero Remake Could Beat RE9 to the Market

Responding to one question on Twitter, Dusk Golem claimed that the Resident Evil Zero remake and Resident Evil 9 are currently on course to wrap up development around the same time. As a result, Capcom should soon get a rare chance to choose which big-budget Resident Evil game to release next. Whichever one it decides on will almost certainly be officially announced first. In recent years, the company favored revealing Resident Evil games roughly half a year ahead of their market debuts.

Since 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the franchise, Capcom is likely to release at least one Resident Evil game next year. The Code: Veronica remake is expected to hit the market after both RE9 and the RE0 reimagining. Dusk Golem previously reported that the new version of Code: Veronica will be less ambitious than the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Be prepared to relive the first nightmare in Resident Evil 0, a remastered version of the popular prequel to the original Resident Evil game. This remastered version takes the fear-inducing atmosphere from the original 2002 release and transforms it with stunning new HD visuals, improved sound, widescreen support and an optional modernized control system and more. It’s the best way to experience the story of what really happened before the iconic mansion incident that was the catalyst for the entire Resident Evil saga.

The story of Resident Evil 0 takes players back to 1998. Reports have been mounting about unusual murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The city’s Special Forces division, S.T.A.R.S., sends their Bravo Team - including rookie cop member Rebecca Chambers - to investigate. On route, the team’s helicopter suffers engine trouble and is forced to make a crash landing, where they find an overturned prisoner transport vehicle. Splitting up to search the area, Rebecca discovers the Ecliptic Express, a train stopped dead on the tracks. Inside, she meets death row convict and ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen. Throughout the game, you will take control of both Rebecca and Billy, at times switching between both characters in order to proceed. Learning the advantages of each character is the key to solving puzzles and surviving the nightmares that lie ahead.
