During the June Xbox Games Showcase, developer Asobo Studio and publisher Focus Entertainment revealed that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will be launching on multiple platforms in 2026, including a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass. The third title in the popular Plague Tale series, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will again immerse players in a tumultuous period of history, though this one might be a bit different than expected.
A Plague Tale: Innocence was released in 2019, the first original project by Asobo Studio in 10 years, and its intriguing location, charismatic characters, and tense stealth gameplay quickly grabbed the attention of gamers. It ultimately earned several awards in multiple categories, as well as a 2022 sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem. The action-adventure follow-up also took home a number of awards, and when Asobo shared that it was working on an “exciting project” in 2023, many hoped and even assumed that it was another Plague Tale game.
Every Game Pass Game Revealed at the Xbox Showcase
Xbox's 2024 Showcase has just wrapped up, and an impressive total of 18 games were officially confirmed to be coming to Xbox/PC Game Pass.
That confidence seemed justified when, in early June, publisher Focus Entertainment made two Threads posts revealing a new Plague Tale game, as well as its platforms, release window, and a brief teaser video. The posts were deleted, but just a few days later, during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy was more officially announced. It is planned for a 2026 release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. On Microsoft’s platform, it will be launching day one on Xbox Game Pass and will also be a Play Anywhere title, meaning that gamers can use cross-saves to play on either PC or Xbox at will without buying multiple copies.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy May Be Leaving Medieval France
The reveal of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy was overall received with excitement. However, many people were surprised and even a little dubious, primarily because the character featured in the new trailer was neither Amicia de Rune nor her brother Hugo, the series’ protagonists.
This is because, as its name suggests, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a prequel game set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence. This means that the game predates the Hundred Years’ War, during which the first two titles take place, by a few years. And it seems like the French Inquisition, which has played a major role in the series up to now, might also be absent from the new game.
Resonance: A Plague Tale may leave France altogether and instead take players to Crete and the world of Greek mythology. The game follows Sophia, “a fierce young plunderer” and perhaps the same character encountered in Requiem, who carried Amicia and Hugo to La Cuna island on her ship. Resonance introduces an entirely new story, apparently with a heavy focus on puzzles, if the logo and gameplay snippets are any indication. Sophia makes her way to Minotaur Island, where she must make her way through what seems to be the mythical labyrinth of King Minos.
