It's been a long wait for Rick and Morty season 8 after season 7 ended in December 2023. The new season is coming soon, and fans can't wait to see more wild and funny adventures from scientist Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, his grandson. The animated series has gone through some changes and, since season 7, Ian Cardoni has voiced Rick and Harry Belden has voiced Morty. While the original series is still going strong, Rick and Morty: The Anime premiered in August 2024, although it received a low Rotten Tomatoes rating of 50%.
While there are many great shows like Rick and Morty, the intelligent and quirky series is still a fan favorite, and viewers look forward to the next part of the main characters' journeys. So, let's find out when and where to watch Rick and Morty season 8, episode 1, along with what the episode will be about.
Rick And Morty Season 8 Is Getting A Fresh Start, And The Smiths Are Finally Hitting Home Again
The first season of Rick and Morty established its premise as the misadventures of a broken family in a rippled universe. Season 8 returns to form.
Where To Watch Rick And Morty Season 8, Episode 1, "Summer of All Fears"?
Fans can watch Rick and Morty season 8, episode 1 on Sunday, May 25th, 2025 at 11 p.m. E.T. On Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network.
In the preview put out by Adult Swim, "Summer of all Fears" tells a story about Morty's sister Summer Smith (Spencer Grammer), who feels confident as she walks into Harry Herpson High School. She makes a statement that is quite memorable and poetic:
"There's literally no limit to what I can achieve. Student body president, valedictorian, or maybe just live this one day, sweet and fleeting. Maybe just hold onto 17."
Then, two classmates make fun of Summer, and she gets angry at them. From this brief preview, it's clear that Summer's plans for a good day have gone awry. While fans love seeing the two title characters exploring, some of the most hilarious Rick and Morty episodes focus on their family members, too, and it's great that Summer is getting the spotlight. From the various previews that have been released, it's clear that Rick and Morty's smart and distinct tone is still there, and even if viewers feel that the show has changed a bit since the beginning, these new episodes look promising.
Seeing more of Summer is also fun because she's such a clever character. As Spencer Grammer told Syfy.com in 2019, her character "has a level of intelligence and such a conviction in the things she loves that you can kind of get behind her." Although season 7 wasn't the best Rick and Morty season, and one could argue that some of the highest quality episodes came earlier on, it's smart that the show delves more into Summer sometimes. There will be 10 episodes in season 8, and hopefully this won't be the only one about Summer.
What Will Rick And Morty Season 8 Be About?
In the Rick and Morty season 8 trailer, viewers can see the main characters are up to their old tricks and going on several adventures. Fans have high hopes for the new season, and some hope that Memory Rick will come back since one of season 8's episode titles references him. While the season 8 teaser was a bit disappointing, fans still appreciate these quirky and different characters and can't wait to see more from them.
Creator Dan Harmon told The Best War Games that the show is still "fresh" because he hires younger writers who love Rick and Morty and have a passion for it.
According to Variety, Rick and Morty season 8 will have some episodes focused on the main character's escapades, along with some storylines similar to Rick Prime and Evil Morty. Harmon said:
“There’s obviously been a lot of shakeups and transitions that have happened that are luckily coinciding with some of these canonical storylines being resolved. If I could set a framework for fans of the show, it’s the old characters and all these things, but it’s like, this is an opportunity for a rebirth. I mean, the kind of canonical things like searching for Rick Prime, these are things that come out of the ether, and then they acquire this gravity, and then they become a canonical serialized story.”
Fans look forward to seeing what Rick and Morty get up to next, and thankfully, the season 8 premiere is just a few days away.
