Rick and Morty season 8 premiered on May 25th, 2025, and Morty Smith and his scientist grandfather Rick Sanchez are as hilarious and wise as ever. The animated series premiered in 2013 and has been delivering entertaining and thought-provoking episodes ever since. Rick and Morty is as funny as Community, the other sitcom Dan Harmon is known for creating, although it has very different subject matter. Every episode tells a fresh story about the frustrations and joys of family while diving into different scientific topics, and while the show might not be grounded in reality, it's a lot of fun to watch.
In October 2024, Variety reported that Adult Swim renewed Rick and Morty up for several more seasons, including season 12. With season 8 underway, that means fans will get to see these hilarious characters for at least four more seasons after this one, which is great news. So, let's find out when Rick and Morty season 8, episode 2 is airing, along with the storyline for the episode.
Who Is Memory Rick And Why Does He Matter In Rick And Morty Season 8?
Welcoming back Memory Rick would mark a return to some of the show's highest highs for a season anticipated to be among Rick And Morty's best.
How To Watch Rick And Morty Season 8, Episode 2, "Valkyrick"
Fans can watch Rick and Morty season 8, episode 2, "Valkyrick" on Sunday, June 1st, 2025 at 11 p.m. E.T. On Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network.
The official description reads, according to Rotten Tomatoes:
"Space Beth calls her dad for a ride."
It's great that the next episode of Rick and Morty will feature the memorable character of Space Beth as she's one reason why the series is so compelling. After Rick clones his daughter Beth Smith (Sarah Chalke), Space Beth is introduced in the season 4 finale, "Star Mort Rickturn of the Jed." Since there are two versions of Beth, fans often debate which one is real, and viewers may never know who the actual Beth is. This has become a celebrated part of the series, and it's definitely a smart move. Rather than a big, corny reveal about the real Beth, the show is keeping things vague, and it works well. Beth is a great character since, through her, Rick and Morty explores the meaning of family. Also, since there are so many great movies about clones, this is always a welcome sci-fi storyline.
Like the recurring character Pickle Rick, fans are used to seeing different versions of the same character, and while Space Beth might seem strange on another series, she is right into this wild, chaotic, and quirky world. One of her best appearances was in Rick and Morty season 7, episode 6, "Rickfending Your Mort," when she is frustrated by The Observer's playing clips of moments she would rather people didn't see. Whether Clone Beth or Space Beth, this character often feels humiliated by her dad, and her reactions make for some hilarious scenes.
In the Rick and Morty season 8 premiere, "Summer of all Fears," Summer Smith (Spencer Grammer) has a frustrating day at school, and several fans discussed the episode positively on Reddit. Redditor @nightwingprime called it "really solid for a premiere" and called it "a classic adventure." Several others said it was a "strong" beginning to the season. Since season 8, episode 2 is bringing back a beloved character, it sounds like it will be another popular episode.
Sarah Chalke Enjoys Playing Two Beths On Rick And Morty
In 2020, Sarah Chalke gave an interview to Inverse and shared that she likes playing Clone Beth and Space Beth on the Adult Swim series. She said:
"I love it!. To tweak the character and play a different version was so much fun to do because there are subtle differences between the two of them.”
Chalke also mentioned the clever Rick and Morty season 4 finale and continued:
“I didn’t know as we went along — and still don’t — who’s the clone and who’s not. I love that they decided to leave it on a note where both Beths don’t really care which one is the clone.”
Fans don't mind not knowing who the real and the fake Beths are, and this character arc definitely keeps things interesting. Since there will be 10 episodes in Rick and Morty season 8, hopefully Space Beth will come back again. One thing is for sure, the series is as fun to watch as it was back in season 1, and viewers will never tire of the offbeat and smart characters.
