Footage of a canceled spin-off of Ride to Hell: Retribution has leaked, 12 years after the original game's release. The Deep Silver-published Ride to Hell: Retribution was a huge flop upon its 2013 release, receiving scathing reviews from critics.

Eutechnyx's dismal Ride to Hell: Retribution is commonly considered to be among the worst video games of all time. Everything, from its rough gameplay and outdated graphics to its bad voice acting and edgy writing, was panned by players and critics alike. In fact, it's harder to find something to praise about Ride to Hell: Retribution, and its reputation among the pantheon of terrible video games is almost legendary at this point.

As spotted by TheGamer, a recent leak has shown off footage from an early build of Route 666, an unannounced, canceled spin-off of Ride to Hell: Retribution. The footage was posted in a Reddit thread by TanFlo1997 over on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, with the build dated to April 2013, just a few short months before Ride to Hell: Retribution's disastrous release. From what can be seen in the admittedly early build of Route 666, it seems to have that unintentionally funny game vibe that made Ride to Hell: Retribution so noteworthy, although from an actual gameplay standpoint, it's difficult to argue that it would have been much of an improvement over its predecessor.

Canceled Ride to Hell: Retribution Spin-Off Leaks After 12 Years

According to the Reddit thread, a working build of Route 666 was recently leaked on Hidden Palace. The game was allegedly "at least 3 months away from release before it was canned." It's not clear exactly why Route 666 was eventually canceled, although Ride to Hell: Retribution becoming arguably the worst game in the 2013 video game calendar likely played a significant part in it.

There's always a morbid curiosity when it comes to the worst games of all time. While most bad games are quickly forgotten and players move on, others are so staggeringly poor that they live on and develop a legacy for all the wrong reasons. For example, it was confirmed a few months back that Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is coming to Steam after over 20 years, news that piqued gamers' interest due to its reputation as being notoriously bad.
