Throughout the Rise of the Ronin's campaign, players will be forced to pick between two choices with drastically different outcomes that affect their playthrough's timeline. If you feel like you made a wrong decision, you can thankfully replay a mission without starting the game all over again.

The Testament of the Soul feature lets players experience all main missions in Rise of the Ronin again without starting a new save. It's a great way to get some missable items, and as mentioned, you can use it to alter your current playthrough's timeline in case you feel like you made a mistake. Here's how it works.

Players get the ability to replay missions after they reach Edo for the first time. The quest that takes you there is at the tail-end of Chapter 1, where you and anti-shogunate companions attempt to rescue Shoin Yoshida before he is executed.

After the rescue attempt, players will be introduced to the Testament of the Soul, an interactable object that will let them pick and replay past story chapters. After the Sakurada Gate Incident quest (where players can get the Gikei-ryu Shinobi Combat Style), they'll be able to use the Testament of the Soul from any Longhouse.

Changing the Timeline

The Testament of the Soul will players any of the major story missions that they've completed so far. Additionally, you'll be able to see the outcomes of decisions you've made in specific missions.

By replaying missions that lead to different outcomes, you get a chance to rewrite the timeline. Your choices determine which characters live and die, which will affect things like item rewards, character Bonds, and the outcome of the main story itself.

Players can also use the Testament of the Soul to go back in time and return to regions they've visited before.

When you change the timeline, you'll get the opportunity to select which outcome to use. This is useful for a number of things — by choosing a different choice, you can get all the rewards and other goodies tied to it while still maintaining your current timeline. This means that replaying missions can have zero impact on the decisions you've made thus far, making this system perfect for completionists.

You can replay missions as much as you want, and if you want to change the outcome of one mission, you'll have to play through its entirety all over again. Any cutscene following the outcome of a completed mission will also be displayed in the Testament of the Soul.
