Rise of the Ronin is an open-world RPG set in 19th-century Japan. Players will move across a country at odds as a lone Ronin trying to find their place in the world. As they do, people will ask them for favors or help.

Some of these missions require a more delicate touch than going in and assassinating people left and right. Players will be asked to complete No Kill Missions and use non-lethal force as they complete their objective. Rise of the Ronin players who feel merciful can use this guide to learn how to do non-lethal takedowns.

How to Do Non-Lethal Takedowns in Rise of the Ronin

Rise of the Ronin

Rise of the Ronin has several ways for players to overpower their enemies without actually killing them. Non-lethal takedowns are a way to knock foes out without spilling blood. If players want to play a more compassionate character, they may wish to always use non-lethal force when fighting. This fighting style pairs well with the Seducer Origin.

Rise of the Ronin How to Do Non-Lethal Takedowns

Players can unequip their weapons to do a non-lethal takedown. The easiest way is to use stealth attacks. If an enemy has their back turned, players can sneak up on them by crouching and approaching slowly. The stealth attack option will appear whenever they are close enough.

Formidable Foes may not go down from a stealth attack alone.

If no weapon is equipped, players will engage in hand-to-hand combat, fighting in the Mumyo-ryu combat style. Players can unlock the skill "Unarmed Countersparks (Strength)" to perform countersparks without a weapon. Another good skill for unarmed combat is "Palm Off (Charm)," which deals Ki damage through a shockwave after an attack.

Alternatively, players can do non-lethal attacks using a training or wooden weapon. If players have a non-lethal weapon equipped, their sneak attacks won't be deadly either. If players use a proficient non-lethal weapon, it can also deal significant damage, so they don't have to worry about sacrificing power. Non-lethal weapons can be purchased from traders and merchants in Rise of the Ronin.

Rise of the Ronin Purchase Training and Wooden Weapons from a Trader

Players don't always have to use non-lethal force, but it is a good idea in certain situations. Petty disagreements or street fights don't always need to end in bloodshed, and people typically show their gratitude whenever restraint is exercised. If players are sent on a No Kill Mission and they complete it successfully, they will get a trophy and a significant social boost from whoever gave them the mission.

Rise of the Ronin Use Non-lethal Force

Some enemies may even take it easier on players if they use non-lethal force. People are more likely to show mercy if they aren't fighting to the death, and players will build up a positive reputation in more areas with this good behavior.
