Risk of Rain 2's newest DLC has just been released (at the time of writing this) and has a whole lot of new content for fans of the incredibly difficult high-octane roguelike to enjoy. In particular, there are three new Survivors to play, with Seeker being the only one unlocked by default, and one particular character requires a pretty specific unlock method that involves the Halcyon Seed Item.

In particular, you'll want to go to the Gilded Coast, fight Aurelionite, and gain the Halcyon Seed as early as possible to have the highest chance of using it to unlock the secret third new Survivor. So let's go over exactly how this item is obtained in general in Risk of Rain 2, where it's found, and the easiest ways to get there.

Where To Find The Halycon Seed

Head to the Gilded Coast & Fight the Titanic Goldweaver

The Gilded Coast is a 'secret' or 'hidden' stage in Risk of Rain 2, similar to the Void Fields or the Void Locus, and it's ruled by Aurelionite. This is one of the most complex golem creations by Prominence who was then promptly sealed away in a separate realm (AKA the Gilded Coast) by their brother, Mithrix. The Halcyon Seed can be assumed to be Aurelionite's core or 'soul', and once you get it as an item Aurelionite will now appear during all future Teleporter Events in that run as an ally, returning to your inventory as the Halcyon Seed as soon as the Teleporter Event is over.

But in order to get the Halcyon Seed, you'll need to beat Aurelionite in the Gilded Coast, and this involves spending money on the 7 different Halcyon Beacons found around the Gilded Coast until you've bought them all. Right after purchasing the last one, Aurelionite will become vulnerable to damage for a short a few short minutes, so you'll want to lay into them as much as possible during this window.

If Aurelionite isn't killed during this vulnerable phase, they'll become invincible again (visible by the white-ish outline around them), and you'll need to re-purchase all of the Beacons to make them vulnerable again. Once Aurelionite is defeated, a portal will open leading out of the Gilded Coast, and a Halycon Seed (or multiple, depending on the lobby) will drop as well. Overall, given that the Gilded Coast is one of the few places where time doesn't increase, it's usually worth grabbing the Halcyon Seed if the opportunity arises. But, in the Seekers of the Storm DLC in particular, it's especially important. Without spoiling why, we'll just say you'll want to bring the Halcyon Seed along with you while going through the series of new green portals the DLC introduces.

How To Reach The Gilded Coast

It's Not Exactly Easy

To reach the Gilded Coast, you'll either need to get lucky and stumble across an Altar of Gold, spend some Lunar Coins to reach the Bazaar Between Time (and the Lunar Seer) or spend a lot of time in a run looping hoping to spawn into it. Most people would prefer the first method, but the second method is by far the most reliable way of getting here. For this method, you'll want to go to the Bazaar Between Time using the Newt Altars as often as possible. When there, look at the Lunar Seer section of the Glass Newts Shop to see previews of the next possible stages. You can spend 3 Lunar Coins here to 'lock in' what your next stage will be (provided you don't then head into the Void Fields), and the Gilded Coast has a small chance to appear at the Lunar Seer at any point. This is how most people reach the Gilded Coast in general, but that's not the only way.

Essentially, the other 'main' method of getting to the Gilded Coast involves finding an Altar of Gold on any stage. These look incredibly similar to the Altars of Chance but are pure gold in color and material. They cost a ton of money to use (the amount depends on the difficulty and current duration of the run), but when purchased they will then cause a Gold Portal to spawn at the Teleporter after the Teleporter Event has completed which leads to the Gilded Coast. Just make sure to use this Altar before starting the Teleporter Event, as it becomes unusable afterward. The final method of reaching the Golden Coast is spawning into randomly it after teleporting to a new stage once you start looping during a run, but this method is the one that relies on random chance and time investment the most by far.
