False Son is one of the strongest (if not the strongest) survivors in Risk of Rain 2, which is to be expected from a boss-turned-playable-character. All of his abilities hit hard, and his kit only gets better once players unlock the rest of his skills.

The unlock requirements for False Son's abilities in Risk of Rain 2 may seem intimidating at first, but they're all actually quite simple to get if you know what to do. Here are all of this character's unlockable skills and the easiest ways to get all of them (without resorting to cheats or mod usage).

Risk Of Rain 2: Best Seeker Build

Unlock the Seeker's true potential by prioritizing these following items during your next run in Risk of Rain 2.

RoR 2: How to Unlock Protein Heavy Diet for False Son (Lunar Stakes)

RoR 2 Protein heavy diet False Son
  • Unlock: Gain up to 40 Lunar Spikes through Growth

Lunar Stakes is False Son's unlockable Secondary skill. It works much like Lunar Spikes, except it shoots larger projectiles that summon lightning bolts to whatever they hit. To get it, you'll need to raise your health high enough to get your Lunar Spike charges all the way up to 40.

Growth refers to False Son's passive ability that empowers his other abilities whenever his maximum health increases. The easiest way to unlock Lunar Stakes in RoR 2 is to get the Artifact of Command, play on Monsoon, and play regularly until you get the following items:

  • 10 Bison Steaks
  • 9 Transfusions (fully charged)
  • 2 Titanic Knurls
  • 4 Stone Flux Pauldrons

You should be level 21 by the time you get all of these items, though you'll likely need to loop at least once to get them. Make sure to visit the Newt's store in the Bazaar by interacting with a Newt Altar, and kill at least two bosses with Trophy Hunter's Tricorn to get the Stone Flux Pauldrons and Titanic Knurls respectively.

Once you unlock the skill, you can quit out of the game. Having four Stone Flux Pauldrons means your movement speed is going to be excruciatingly slow. If you decide to continue, enjoy having ~10,000 health and over 100 HP/second regeneration rate.

Alternatively, you can get the Longstanding Solitude and Roll of Pennies combo. The former converts all Gold gains into XP, while the latter grants you a chance to Gold after taking damage. Get Longstanding Solitude from a Lunar Pod or the Newt's store, get a few Rolls of Pennies, then soak some damage from enemies. This will give you a constant stream of XP, increasing your health in the process.

Make sure to fire off all your Lunar Spikes when taking damage. Each used Spike will increase your health regeneration by 2.5 HP/second.

Fighting False Son as modded Enforcer in RoR 2
After So Many Roguelike Releases, Risk of Rain 2 is Still My Favorite

I've played a lot of roguelikes this past year, but none of them have made me cackle maniacally the same way that Risk of Rain 2 has. It's crazy how you can go from a guy with a gun plodding around an alien planet to a demigod armed to the teeth with seemingly normal yet suspiciously powerful items. The way Risk of Rain 2 has me going in a trance always makes me come back for just one more run every so often.

How to Unlock False Son Meridian's Will Skill in RoR 2 (Family Bonding)

RoR 2 Aurelionite fighting Mithrix
  • Unlock: Have Aurelionite land the final blow on Mithrix while Mithrix has at least one stack of Lunar Ruin.

Meridian's Will is an alternate mobility skill for False Son that lets players teleport to a targeted location. Shortly after teleporting, every enemy in the target area will get pulled in and damaged, and False Son's passive benefits are tripled.

To get this skill, players need to get a Halcyon Seed by finding and beating Aurelionite in the Gilded Coast. To get to the Gilded Coast, you need to find an Altar of Gold (a Golem-shaped golden statue). These have a rare chance to spawn in any map. Alternatively, you can try going to the Bazaar Between Time and hope that one of the portals there lead to the Gilded Coast.

Once you get a Halcyon Seed, continue your run until you get to Mithrix. Blow him up until you reach the final phase where he absorbs all your items. Take cover, and take some pot shots at him using your ranged attacks. Aurelionite will eventually spawn. Once Aurelionite is fighting Mithrix, shoot some more Lunar Spikes (or Lunar Stakes) at Mithrix until his health is low enough for Aurelionite to finish him off.

RoR 2: False Son Stare Them Down Challenge (Laser Burst)

RoR 2 False Son Laser Beam
  • Unlock: Kill 15 enemies with one activation of Laser of the Father

This is the easiest to unlock out of all False Son abilities, but if you want to make it even easier, you'll want to use the Artifact of Swarms, which doubles enemy spawn rates while halving their max health values.

Load into a run, wait for enemies to clump together, then beam them all down with Laser of the Father. You can also try getting the following items to make things easier:

  • Primordial Cube: Equipment item that launches a black hole that sucks in all enemies that come near it.
  • Health items: Laser of the Father's duration increases based on False Son's max health, thanks to his Growth passive.
  • Delicate Watch: Provides a 20% damage boost, and all it asks is that you keep your health from dipping below 25%.
