Roblox is reportedly considering implementing a controversial new betting feature into the beloved gaming platform, with "prediction betting" being considered by the game's CEO. The massively popular gaming platform has made waves throughout the past year, seeing both unprecedented success and significant controversy related to changes to the game. Roblox's stock would see a meteoric rise off the back of the success of games like Grow a Garden, though the game has been the subject of numerous lawsuits and controversies over its ability to protect players. Now, Roblox is seeing even more controversy with a proposed change.
Roblox has found itself in the spotlight several times throughout the past year, both for good and bad reasons for the game. Grow a Garden saw monumental growth earlier this year, with the farming sim even beating a Fortnite record with a concurrent user count of over 22 million players. The farming sim has launched regular updates for players to enjoy, adding a plethora of new crops, pets, and more seasonal events as one of the most popular game experiences on Roblox. However, Roblox is now finding itself embroiled in a new debate, unrelated to its games.

Roblox CEO Considering Prediction Betting Feature
Roblox CEO David Baszucki recently revealed that he is considering the potential addition of a "prediction betting" feature to Roblox. The proposed mechanic would give players the ability to place in-game bets using Robux on different events in Roblox games, using the popular game Steal a Brainrot as an example. Baszucki claimed that the betting feature would have to be implemented in a way that is "educational and legal," suggesting that betting Robux would likely not be involved in an official Roblox betting feature. The CEO also suggested there would be several legal implications that would need to be addressed in order to add a betting function.
The potential addition of prediction betting to Fortnite would likely draw more controversy to a game that has already captured significant criticism. Roblox was the subject of a major lawsuit earlier this year filed by the State of Louisiana, suggesting that Roblox has failed in its duty to protect children using the platform. The platform has made some changes throughout the year aimed at better safeguarding children from inappropriate content, including a new AI-powered age recognition software.
Roblox's proposed betting features join a push towards more adult-oriented content on the platform from the game's CEO earlier this year. Roblox recently made changes to its restricted content offered through the platform, removing restricted content from the search function for registered users under the age of 18. Roblox also raised the age limit for its Restricted experiences, pushing the minimum age limit from 17 to 18-year-old players for its adult content. Only time will tell whether Roblox will implement prediction betting and how the mechanic will function within the beloved gaming platform.
