A petition to remove Roblox CEO David Baszucki from his position at the popular gaming platform has already been signed by over 120,000 people. The petition aimed at Roblox’s boss comes on the heels of some recent controversies faced by the company, as the platform has been accused of not providing enough protection for its underage users.
Roblox has an average of over 85 million daily active users, over half of them 16 years old or younger. Last week, the State of Louisiana sued Roblox, as Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a lawsuit against it for “permitting and perpetuating an online environment in which child predators thrive.” Additionally, Roblox has also been recently sued by the family of a player in Des Moines, Iowa, who claimed that their 13-year-old child had been groomed on the platform and kidnapped.

Petition to Remove David Baszucki Is Increasing in Popularity
Now, a Change.org petition has gained momentum amid this wave of criticism against the company, achieving over 120,000 verified signatures. Called “Remove David Baszucki," the petition claims that Roblox failed to “act quickly” against predators, that the platform has allowed “dangerous content” to circulate, and that calls for reform are ignored by the upper management.
While neither Roblox nor Baszucki has publicly directly addressed the petition, the company has commented on the recent Louisiana lawsuit. Earlier this week, Roblox officially responded that the platform has made significant strides in safety, highlighting over 40 moderation tools added in the past year, such as filtered chat systems and prohibitions on direct image sharing.
Due to these controversies regarding child safety, Roblox’s shares have declined significantly in the stock market. The shares dropped over 7% last week, but seem to be recouping some of their value.
It remains to be seen how Roblox will address the increased dissatisfaction of its user base. Roblox has incredibly popular games, so it’s not likely that it’ll go away anytime soon, but one has to wonder what kind of impact these controversies will have on it moving forward.
