Roblox is getting rid of static heads, and the change could ultimately lead to some players seeing their favorites disappear from their inventory entirely. The upcoming Roblox change isn't going over well with much of the community, with players and creators alike voicing their frustrations online.

Roblox has made a number of controversial decisions over the years, with one of the most recent being the changes to the age verification system in Roblox. Players have claimed that Roblox's AI age checks have led to them being unable to view their chat histories with some users due to being classified in different age groups, or one of the players not verifying their age. Now, another change is coming, but this one will impact how fans' cosmetics.

Roblox is Changing Heads Forever

Roblox has now announced that it's getting rid of traditional static head designs entirely in favor of dynamic heads, and that if specific steps aren't taken by creators, they could disappear entirely from players' inventories. Effective immediately, Roblox is requiring new head designs to be dynamic. Those who have created traditional heads in Roblox and sell them as assets are being given five weeks to convert their heads to the dynamic format. The dynamic heads require a caged model, defined eye and mouth regions for animating, and minimal FACS controls for expressions, according to the developer. Heads that don't meet the new requirements will be removed from sale on March 3. After that, those heads will be removed from players' inventories entirely if they're not updated by June 15, 2026.

As one might expect, much of the Roblox community isn't taking well to this news. Some have protested the change in general, preferring the look of the original heads. Creators have also complained, as this change means those who have created static head designs that don't meet the new requirements either have to update them or see their assets completely removed from the market. Players have objected to the notion of losing heads that they've rightfully paid for with Robux in the past, especially since there's nothing that they can do personally to ensure that their purchased items aren't lost. Members of the community have asked for Roblox to reconsider its decision or to at least provide more time to allow for upgrades to the heads before they're completely stripped from players' inventories.

This isn't the first time that Roblox has drawn ire for changes, even when limiting the scope to heads. In 2023, Roblox faced criticism after making changes to the marketplace, preventing players from selling heads and bodies for free. Then in 2024, the lowest price for headgear accessories increased by 20 Robux from 75 to 95. Outside of concerns directly involving heads, Roblox saw criticism in 2025 for its new age verification system, which required players to upload selfie videos to automatically gauge their age, or lose access to Roblox's chat system. Even once verified, players expressed frustration as they were limited to chatting with specific age groups, which cut some fans off from those they used to talk to.

Despite these decisions and changes, though, Roblox remains extremely popular. In early 2025, it was estimated that 380 million players actively use Roblox every month, with a concurrent player count of 47 million later in the same year, and, curiously, more player accounts are registered in the game than there are people currently living on the planet. Despite the outspoken frustrations, it's unlikely that these changes to heads will make a huge change to the number of users actively playing Roblox. However, it also remains to be seen if Roblox can beat its own numbers with further growth in 2026.
