Roblox has disabled all unrated experiences on its platform. The suspension of gray-area games is the latest step in Roblox's efforts to improve child safety within its ecosystem.

Roblox Shares Staggering Daily Active User Count

In early September 2025, Roblox announced a push to standardize its age ratings through a partnership with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC). The move aims to give parents easier access to clear information about the appropriate age for each experience on the platform. Ahead of the announcement, Roblox Corporation said it would disable all unrated experiences, a step likely intended to align with the goals of the IARC partnership.

Roblox Pulls the Plug on Unrated Games

The new policy on gray-area games was implemented on Tuesday, September 30. It constitutes a comprehensive crackdown, preventing experiences without a maturity label from being played or even discovered. Up until now, Roblox was allowing users to access unrated games after confirming they were 13 or older.

Unrated Roblox Games Aren't Deleted and Can Be Restored

While Roblox Corporation now employs a zero-tolerance policy for unrated games, its crackdown is not a purge, as none of the experiences lacking a maturity label have been deleted. Instead, Roblox creators are encouraged to update them with an age rating so that they can get them relisted and playable again. This can be done by logging into the Creator Hub, then selecting an unrated experience from the Creations section. On the Overview page, there is an Audience section where a "Maturity and Compliance" questionnaire can be accessed. Answering all of its questions is all that's required to generate a content maturity label.

Roblox Will Preserve Unrated Classics From Inactive Creators

The heaviest impact of the September 30 policy change lands on legacy projects whose creators are inactive. However, Roblox Corporation had previously committed to preserving "cherished classics" that fall into this group. Specifically, the company's own staff will rate any experience that amassed at least 1,000 lifetime visits in case its creator is no longer active on Roblox. This effort started in late August 2025 and is currently ongoing, with no window being given yet for its completion. In a prepared statement, a Roblox Corporation representative described the push to rate the games from inactive creators as a "significant undertaking that will take time."

The disabling of unrated games is part of a broader effort to improve child safety on the platform. To that end, Roblox has recently also introduced stricter policies on mature content, removing it from search results and announcing plans to block access for users under 18, up from the previous minimum age limit of 17.
