Summary
- The community wants Roblox to allow users to choose their own username chat colors.
- Most are dissatisfied with their colors given at random, and are asking the developer to add the option as a new feature.
A Roblox user has flagged a username feature they would like to see added to the gaming platform’s interface, and the community agrees that the addition would contribute to players’ online identity. Roblox was first launched back in 2006, created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, and the game creation system has hosted an average of 85.3 million daily active users as of 2025.
Roblox began to see massive growth during the pandemic, accumulating over 5,000 games in the catalog, which has considerably grown every year. A new Roblox game has become a huge success recently, achieving three million active players, which later led to a platform crash. Grow a Garden is the latest addition to the gaming platform from The Garden Game developers, allowing players to grow crops, harvest, and sell produce like a real-world farmer.

Posted on Reddit by whitezombieda, a settings screenshot was shared on the Roblox subreddit, and the thread asked the game’s devs for a new username feature to be added. The screenshot showed the option for users to change their username chat color, and players were disappointed that this feature wasn’t accessible already, similar to another complaint Roblox players had about the username change costs. Currently, username chat colors are automatically picked at random, giving players a small chance of obtaining their desired color.
Roblox Players Want to Pick Their Own Username Chat Color
The community is very vocal about issues popping up on the platform, including Roblox’s unrated error issue that arose recently, and Redditors were trying to crack the UI’s algorithm for assigning username colors. Some players noted that they had been lucky to receive their favorite color after creating their username, and others revealed that they had grown to love their given color. Most embraced the color they were given, claiming it as their identity, but some, unfortunately, despise their given color, with particular hate being given to the “ugly tan” tone. Therefore, players are keen for the developer to add this feature so they can escape the colors they hate.
Staying on the topic of chat, Roblox ended the Legacy Chat Service recently, converting to a Text Chat Service that left many users disgruntled. The player base was concerned that the removal of Legacy Chat would affect older admin games, but the developers confirmed that the change was enforced to respect the parental controls currently in place. The team also warned the community that further changes could be implemented to support future safety and legal requirements.
