Rockstar Games is a studio mostly known for the Grand Theft Auto series, although it has found success with other franchises including Red Dead and Midnight Club. Gamers have been eagerly watching the studio, as it has been confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in the works, though no official release date has been announced. Recently, a weird snippet was posted on Rockstar's official Twitter account, and it caused some gamers to believe that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be revealed soon. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The teaser is for a Grand Theft Auto: Online update, which may be disappointing to some. It may be a while before the next GTA game is officially revealed, and Rockstar will probably be more extravagant than a mere video on Twitter when it happens. For gamers who want to immerse themselves in a crime story, GTA: Online appears to be a good option.
Rockstar's Psychedelic Teaser
Earlier in December, Rockstar posted a mysterious video on its Twitter account. The video featured the Rockstar logo followed by a slew of lurid, psychedelic colors. There are no games mentioned, but many gamers immediately believed that the video is hinting at Grand Theft Auto 6. This is not surprising because, according to leaks and rumors, the next GTA game will be taking place in a fictionalized version of Miami, and it will have heavy drug cartel themes. The leaks also claimed that the game will feature Grand Theft Auto's first female protagonist.
While the leaks may have seemed a bit unbelievable at first, a massive leak essentially confirmed many of the major leaks. A host of GTA 6 files were leaked, including the female protagonist, who is a Latina named Lucia. The idea that a bigger GTA 6 reveal may be on the way excited gamers, as it is one of the most anticipated games in the industry. However, it was soon revealed that the teaser has nothing to do with the upcoming GTA game.
GTA: Online Receives Another Update
Although Rockstar is hard at work with GTA 6, it is still reaping plenty of money from Grand Theft Auto: Online. Consequently, GTA: Online is still receiving updates. The latest one is Los Santos Drug Wars, and the first chapter of the story update is available now. It follows a crew of nobodies as they endeavor to reach the top of the criminal underworld. Although the update seems interesting, it is a disappointment to fans who had been hoping to see more of GTA 6.
Fans hoping to get official news on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game would be better off practicing patience, as it might be a while before Rockstar releases a trailer or teaser. According to analysts, GTA 6 would be released until 2024 or 2025, which means gamers have about two more years to wait. With a game as large as GTA 6, Rockstar will certainly not be vague when it unveils it. When it is time for gamers to get their first glimpse of it, it likely won't be as anticlimactic as a snippet on Twitter.
It appears that GTA 6 will be taking the series in a new direction. In addition to its female protagonist, leaks also claim that its humor will no longer "punch down." Time will tell how fans react to these changes, although it is apparent that they are greedy for an official reveal. Unfortunately, Rockstar's last video wasn't it.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development.
