Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon Announced for 2025
Nerd Ninjas has now announced its first original IP in the form of Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon. Much like its name implies, this is a virtual reality game with a piñata theme. Specifically, its setting is described as a "party-apocalyptic world" in which festive candy-filled decorations are not only sentient, but also dead-set on destruction. Players will hence be tasked with stopping them, which will require stirring quite a bit of chaos. The game is currently targeting an early 2025 release, having so far been confirmed for Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets.
Gameplay-wise, Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon combines elements of roguelites and first-person shooters. Its day-one version will allow players to navigate six unique levels and take on over 18 types of piñata enemies using more than a dozen weapons. These armaments will support upgrades and dual-wielding, both of which promise to increase their destructive prowess. Experimenting with and optimizing equipment loadouts is going to be a core part of the roguelite's gameplay loop.
Aside from tackling challenges on their own, players will also be able to team up with up to three other people for a cooperative experience. In addition to surviving waves of theriomorphic candy-filled decorations, each stage will also require taking down a formidable boss. Nerd Ninjas founder Nate Chatellier described Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon as a "stupidly fun VR experience that will have players hooked from the first swing." The game is being developed in partnership with Facebook owner Meta Platforms.

Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon Demo Is Now Out
Coinciding with the roguelite's announcement is the release of its free playable demo that can now be downloaded via Steam and the Meta Store. Nerd Ninjas is also planning a Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon Kickstarter campaign, which is planned to launch on Tuesday, October 22. Crowdfunding is something that the Washington company has quite a bit of experience in, as it has so far raised over $10 million via Kickstarter, largely for tabletop games such as Marvel Dice Throne and X-Men Dice Throne.
