2025 is now part of history, but 2026's romance anime lineup is here and massive.
Love bloomed throughout 2025, a year that produced one of the strongest romance anime lineups in a long time. Seriously, we have eaten well over the last 12 months! 2025 included a contender for the best romance anime ever, great sequels to beloved series, and more than a few unusual entries in the genre. We have seen humans fall in love with monsters, a witch enamored with an ogre, campers enjoying the quiet life, and coworkers who are just adorable together. We have enjoyed sickeningly sweet love stories, engrossing mysteries, mature relationships, and a few frustrating (or infuriating) romances built on manipulation or Stockholm syndrome. 2025 presented a varied box of chocolates, to say the least.
As 2026 gradually approaches, the current year will soon become part of history. In due time, many of 2025's romance anime will be forgotten, persisting as remote memories that echo within people's minds with only vague details and inconsistent imagery. Simply put, not every anime can be genre-changing; however, every show deserves its moment in the sun. If nothing else, this article will continue to serve as a historical artifact that highlights the year's beautiful animated love stories.
Completely new anime are the focus; however, sequels are highlighted in a separate section. Movies are not included. Also, no donghua, OVAs, or ONAs; just series that are airing as part of each quarter's lineup. Finally, this article will be updated every month to reflect changes in the seasonal lineups.

One of the better 2025 romance anime, I'm Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class is notorious for having polarizing characters, particularly its female protagonist. That said, the source material is funny, and that has rubbed off on the anime. If anything, the adaptation's fantastic voice acting elevates the material, adding a touch of cuteness to Akane's tsundere antics.
I'm Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class is a better pick for comedy than romance fans, but the show should not leave the latter starving either. While they cannot seem to decide if they hate or love each other, Akane and Saito have great chemistry and banter, working well as both a comedy duo and a fledgling couple.

A more fantasy-laden romance, I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons is all about a duchess who has been tied to a prince, despite her lack of enthusiasm at the prospect of becoming a princess. Despite making her disinterest clear, Leticia finds herself constantly having to go through lessons to learn how to become a princess, with Prince Clarke refusing to let her go.
The female lead is likable enough, but the content can be rather uncomfortable. Clarke forces Leticia to remain his fiancé, and she is very clearly against the thought of the relationship. However, her opinion slowly starts to change, but it is hard to shake the feeling that Stockholm Syndrome might have set in.

A slice of life romance, Okitsura is all about Okinawa culture, presented through young love. Teruaki moves to the city but struggles with the dialect, even when talking to the girl that he genuinely likes (Hina). To allow them to communicate, they turn to a mutual friend (Kana) for assistance.
Okitsura is more slice of life than romance, although Teruaki does not hide his interest in Hina. They are not currently a couple, and they could very well remain that way for the entire season. Kana also has a crush on Teruaki, and she is a far more interesting character than Hina. Kana is essentially the main protagonist, with quite a few episodes being told from her perspective. Consequently, she feels like the end goal rather than Hina, especially since the latter is not that interesting.

Also known as I Have a Crush at Work, Can You Keep a Secret? Offers a refreshing change of pace by focusing on adults rather than high school students. Yui and Masugu are deeply in love and cannot resist their natural pull, which proves to be an issue since they work at a place where romance between colleagues is forbidden.
The manga has a pretty positive reputation, and this 2025 romance anime is a great adaptation, blending humor and wholesome moments well. Yui and Masugu are essentially leading two lives, and their attempts to make them work are entertaining and cute. Frustratingly, the anime is not available on a Western streaming platform, limiting its reach significantly.

Now, here is a 2025 romance anime that could be divisive. Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms revolves around Mona, a girl who can make any guy fall in love with her. She is extremely popular at school, being treated as something of an idol. However, while she pretends to be chipper and bubbly, she is far more cynical than she lets on. When a new transfer student arrives who seems unmoved by her presence, Mona makes it her mission to force Medaka to fall in love with her.
Mona falls for Medaka pretty much instantly, and her interest strengthens the more he rejects her. On his part, the boy's reaction is solely based on the fact that he is set to become a monk, so he has to resist earthly desires. Mona does not make that easy, often going well beyond reason to try and get Medaka to blush and fall for her. Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms can be a bit one-note since so many segments follow a similar structure and end with essentially the same punchline.

OK, Witch Watch is kind of a weird one. Despite having all the ingredients to qualify as a romance, the series prioritizes comedy above everything else, to the point that it can only be recommended to people craving shows in that genre.

Naoto has a reputation for being a siscon, but his dedication to his sister is threatened when an old "friend" named Satsuki comes back into his life, bringing buried secrets into the spotlight. While the premise paints a thriller-esque picture, Watari-kun's ****** Is about to Collapse is not that dark of a manga. This adaptation is one of the more surprising of 2025, as the source material ended in 2023 after releasing chapters for nearly a decade.
The show is mostly just fine. Expect love triangles, misunderstandings, light yandere elements, and slightly trashy elements. Satsuki does not come across as particularly likable, which is fine as she is meant to have a somewhat antagonistic personality.

Hana has a low opinion of herself, at least when it comes to her physical appearance. However, that perception is challenged when a popular classmate, Yosuke, shows interest in her. Based on a seinen manga that produced more than 70 volumes before ending in 2022, April Showers Bring May Flowers has a unique female protagonist, at least going by the romance genre's typical output. The source material is relatively highly regarded, and Silver Link is not a bad choice for the adaptation. Honestly, April Showers Bring May Flowers biggest issue was that it didn't air on something like Crunchyroll, which made it easy to miss.

One of the most highly anticipated 2025 romance anime, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is based on a beloved and popular manga that has been going strong since 2021. The story revolves around two gender-specific high schools that exist next to each other and have a less-than-great relationship, largely due to Chidori being known for delinquent boys and Kikyo for wealthy elite girls. However, Rintarou and Kaoruko might try to break through the social barrier separating the schools.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is nothing short of brilliant, telling an adorable romance driven by two characters who have instant chemistry. The tension between the schools is well-done, but arguably distracts from Chidori and Kikyo's cute relationship. Just let these two be together as much as possible.

This one might hit the mark more with people craving a harem or comedy, but romance fans should still enjoy Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze. After his mother's passing, Yuu moves in with the Mikadono family, and he has to learn to get along with three very talented girls who excel in different areas.
While not naturally gifted, Yuu plans to ensure that his new family life is a positive experience. Although fairly notorious for moving at a glacial pace, the source material does a great job with all four main characters, allowing them to blossom as individuals and potential love interests. The adaptation has been rock-solid, and Yuu is comfortably the best part of this harem. To be honest, this anime barely qualifies as a romance, but I think it still warrants a recommendation.

Slightly reminiscent of The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom, With Vengeance, Sincerely, Your Broken Saintess is a fantasy-based romance that has a fairly dark premise. Lua is a healer, but her ability comes with the caveat that she has to take on any wounds that she fixes. This shortcoming is not only dangerous, but has also turned her into something of a laughingstock who gets constantly bullied. Fortunately, Lua can rely on her close friend, Arianne, for support; unfortunately, the latter is not as wholesome as she seems.
Lua's main romantic partner is Prince Sven, although romance should not be the story's only focus. The premise is quite fascinating and has the potential to result in a pretty intense character-driven drama, but the anime has not been great so far.

After receiving a live-action TV series earlier in 2025, Yudai Debata's manga has been adapted into an anime, with SynergySP handling the adaptation. The studio has been around for decades, but its most recent outings have been relatively divisive. Hopefully, Solo Camping for Two will be a success story.
Now, the concept of following two characters while they go camping has plenty of potential, and it might conjure up memories of Laid-Back Camp. Solo Camping for Two is primarily slice of life, although there is a romance aspect since the story revolves almost entirely around Gen and Shizuku's relationship.

Here is something a bit different from the norm, as Alma-chan Wants to Have a Family is about a robot girl who wishes her "parents," the two scientists who created her, would get along better. Suzume and Enji do not seem to be dating, and they are mostly connected through Alma. Besides learning about love, the latter knows very little about humanity in general, but she wants to learn and grow. Honestly, this show is romance-adjacent more than anything, as the focus is primarily on Alma and not her parents.

A Star Brighter Than the Sun should be a fairly traditional shojo romance that focuses on two childhood friends who are perhaps ready to take the next step. Sae becomes aware that Koki is all grown-up and pretty attractive, although she is not quite sure if she wants to try to turn their comfy friendship into something more. However, she needs to act fast before Koki finds himself in another relationship.
If you are looking for a traditional romance anime, this is shaping up to be Fall 2025's best option. Sae and Kouki are both charming, and they have a good, wholesome rapport. This series is 100% romance too, rather than emphasizing things like comedy or slice of life.

Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle is primarily a harem, so I would only recommend the upcoming show if you are into both genres. The manga has a mostly OK reputation, but it does seem to be a fairly typical take on the harem genre. Saku is a popular guy who has been the subject of some nasty rumors, which causes problems when he is tasked with helping a shut-in schoolmate who hates him. Saku will be surrounded by five girls.
Honestly, Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle has been very good so far, but it is a harem above a romance. If you really dislike the former, the latter will probably not be enough to change your mind.

Villainess isekai anime have become pretty common nowadays, with most seasons having one representative. The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess will satisfy that quota for Fall 2025, and it comes with a fun twist as the protagonist finds herself living through a fantasy romance story she wrote when she was a teenager. The series will likely feature reverse harem elements, along with a heavy focus on humor.

2025 has been a pretty good year for original anime, although it is always difficult to predict the quality of one of these shows. Still, P.A. Works is quite consistent, so Dusk Beyond the End of the World should be, at the minimum, decent. A sci-fi epic, the anime follows Akira, a teen guy who wakes up from a long sleep in a very different version of his world. He quickly meets Yuugure, a girl who looks similar to his girlfriend, and they go on a journey together.
So far, so good, this post-apocalyptic anime has been interesting so far. If you have a HIDIVE subscription, make sure to give this a watch.

I'm including this one primarily for completionist's sake, as I doubt the anime will attract much in the way of attention. Forget that Night, Your Majesty is a webnovel with a curse, a bride that does something pretty awful, and a relationship built on lies and forced marriage. The adaptation consists of 5-minute episodes that are more like motion comics than a full animated series.

A common romance trope combines a loud character with a quiet partner, and Inexpressive Kashiwada and Expressive Oota does not even attempt to hide its decision to use this type of couple. Oota is "expressive" in the sense that he becomes the center of attention by acting like an idiot. Conversely, Kashiwada bottles her emotions and mostly keeps to herself, which catches Oota's eye. He makes it his mission to get a reaction out of Kashiwada. As they say, opposites attract.

A rare anime based on a Western webtoon, Let's Play is all about a video game developer who has to play nice with a streamer who heavily criticized her debut project. This anime has some harem elements, but Marshall is pretty clearly the main romantic partner for Sam, the female protagonist.
At the moment, Let's Play is mostly just OK. Nothing too amazing, but nothing too terrible either. The animation is quite stiff, and the characters are not extremely likable; however, the LA setting is, at least, different.

OK, this Fall 2025 anime will be primarily a comedy, but it should have enough romantic subtext to at least warrant a mention. Luna is a new transfer student, and she happens to be a vampire. However, there is one big issue: she doesn't know how to suck blood. She is absolutely terrible at it. Consequently, Tatsuta steps up to help his classmate learn how to advance her blood-sucking abilities.
Honestly, this description makes the show sound a lot dirtier than it is likely to be. I will not be surprised if this ends up being among Fall 2025's most wholesome shows.

While most villainess anime feature an isekai inciting incident, exceptions exist. May I Ask for One Final Thing? Is all about Scarlet, a woman who is absolutely tired of being treated like a punching bag by her awful fiancé. So, after she is falsely painted as a villainess, she sets out to get revenge on her former romantic partner, all the while attracting the attention of another prince.
Should you watch May I Ask for One Final Thing? Yes. Just, yes. It does not matter if you are into romances or not; give this anime a watch. It is wildly entertaining, and Scarlet is one of Fall 2025's best protagonists.

Now, here is a quirky romantic set-up. Arthur has everything, but the allure of his fame and fortune causes him to mistrust everyone and doubt their intentions. Consequently, he wants a mecha maid, which is not possible; therefore, he ends up with a strong human maid who is more than willing to act like a robot. Arthur does not know that Marie is not actually a robot, starting a peculiar relationship that could take a romantic turn.
Due to the premise, Arthur does not fully see Marie as a potential partner, but they are still being set up as a couple. Marie also activates "girlfriend mode" in one episode, and Arthur even has competition in the form of Noah.

Well, here is a 2005 romance anime with a title that explains everything. Yuu ends up working at a new company and under the guidance of Kannawa, a senpai who is just awkward. While this show's concept is nothing new, workplace anime romances are cute and fun, and they are a nice change of pace from high school or fantasy stories.
My Awkward Senpai is fairly predictable by any stretch of the imagination, but it does not need to be excessively original. Azusa and Yuu have a cute dynamic, and the anime maintains a constant warm and fuzzy tone.

A playful female lead and a fake romance between two cousins, My Friend's Little Sister Has It In for Me is one of the more popular Fall 2025 romance anime, at least in terms of exposure. That said, the story can be quite divisive, as the main female character, Iroha, is an acquired taste to say the least. Akiteru has a weird dynamic with his friend's sister, Iroha, as she tends to annoy him whenever they meet outside of school. Also, his uncle asks him to date his cousin, which is a common request among families.

Anime is not exactly known for diverse body types, so it is refreshing to see an anime that takes things in a different direction. Plus-sized Misadventures in Love! Follows Yumeko, a girl who is very critical of herself. However, an incident causes her to gain self-confidence and self-love, inspiring her to embrace the world and love with open arms. Keisuke starts to see Yumeko in a different light. Plus-sized Misadventures in Love! Has not gotten too much attention so far, but it does have a widely unique female protagonist for anime.

Oh, yeah, here is a really exciting 2025 romance anime. Frankly, describing this show as "romance" is a bit misleading, but it fits the concept to an extent. Hinako has a death wish, and she also happens to have a scent that attracts monsters to her. And, they want to consume her. Shiori, a mermaid, is absolutely obsessed with eating Hinako, but she wants to wait until she is at her best. So, she will protect Hinako from other monsters. (Girls) Love works in mysterious ways.
"Romance" might not necessarily be the best way to describe This Monster Wants to Eat Me, as it fits a few different genres without being a prime example of any. Still, if you want a rare mix of girls love and (light) horror, you will not find many other options.

Yano is constantly covered in cuts and bruises due to his habit of falling, while the former just wants to make sure that her classmate is OK. Yano-kun's Ordinary Days walks the line between romance and slice of life, but it ventures slightly more in the former's direction as the focus is squarely on Kiyoko and Yano's budding relationship. They have a cute enough dynamic, too.
