Halo fans could be in for a big announcement later this year, according to a recent rumor. While the team behind the franchise has kept busy updating Halo Infinite and its live-service, free multiplayer mode, it's remained relatively quiet about what's next after Infinite, apart from a few updates about the studio itself. Now, some think that Halo has a surprise or two up its sleeve to reveal later in 2025.

There's been no shortage of rumors and speculation around the Halo series in recent months. As Microsoft has brought more former exclusives to other platforms, some have suggested that Halo might come to other consoles, even if The Master Chief Collection may not get a PS5 release, as some people originally thought. There have also been rumblings about potential remakes and remasters of older games, as well as a sequel to Infinite. While Halo Studios' plans remain unclear, fans may get a better idea of what to expect before long.

Halo Infinite Releases Big New Update for May 2025

A brand-new Summer 2025 update is here for Halo Infinite, bringing with it changes to gameplay, new items and unlockables, as well as a new gun.

Gaming news channel Rebs Gaming released a quick update on May 28, saying Halo has big news coming this fall. According to Rebs, an attendee at the Halo Championship Series Open in Dallas spoke to a Halo Studios developer who said the company will make a major announcement at the World Championship in October. Last year's World Championship reveal was 343 Industries announcing a rebranding to Halo Studios and confirming that future games in the series would use Unreal Engine 5 instead of the proprietary Slipstream Engine. Given that history, it would make sense for this year's tournament to include another reveal.

Halo May Get a Major Update at the Halo World Championship in October 2025

The reported dev didn't disclose any details beyond that, and there are a few things the next major Halo announcement could entail. Earlier this year, another Halo Studios dev explained that Halo 3 never got a remaster because of studio constraints around staff and resources, but that the company could be open to it now that it no longer struggles with those bottlenecks. Bringing back one of the most beloved entries in the franchise would definitely constitute a "big announcement," especially considering that the first two games in the original trilogy already have remasters.

Alternatively, some rumors suggest a Halo: Combat Evolved remake is in the works as the game's 25th anniversary approaches in 2026. Others seem to think Halo Studios is working on the sequel to Infinite, picking up where the sixth game's campaign left off. Announcements about Halo coming to competitors' consoles are a possibility, too. For now, fans will have to wait until the Halo World Championship in October to hear it straight from the source.
