Helldivers 2 may get a new update—titled "Light of Liberty"—on August 26, as spotted in an apparent leak by PlayStation. What makes this rumor interesting is that Helldivers 2 is confirmed to be finally arriving on Xbox on the same day.
Since rolling out in February 2024, Helldivers 2 has gone on to become one of the more popular online shooters in gaming, thanks to its incredible launch performance and the string of updates released since then. The PlayStation-published title has regularly attracted tens of thousands of players across platforms, even reaching a peak of over 163,000 concurrent players on Steam in May—more than a year after launch. Back in July, it was confirmed that Helldivers 2 would be getting an Xbox Series X/S port, and it now appears that the same might be accompanied by a brand-new update.

PlayStation Leak Possibly Reveals Helldivers 2's Next Big Update
As spotted by a now-deleted Reddit account, the PlayStation France Twitter page supposedly leaked the August 26 arrival of Helldivers 2's Light of Liberty update before swiftly deleting its announcement. Intriguingly, this is the same day on which the Arrowhead Game Studios-developed title is scheduled to hit Xbox. The Reddit user's screenshot of the post shows that the post mentioned players being able to "liberate the depths of dark space" in the rumored update. However, the leaked information didn't contain any details about the update's contents. Based on the naming convention used for the title, there is some fan speculation about the update being a major one, similar to Helldivers 2's Heart of Democracy update and the Omens of Tyranny update before that.
Historically speaking, there is a reasonable chance that the aforementioned post could turn out to be accurate, given that the last major Helldivers 2 update was also prematurely revealed by a regional PlayStation account on Threads. Moreover, keeping in mind the fact that the game is coming to Xbox on the same day and a potential team-up with Halo has also recently been teased, it may be fair to expect the multiplayer game to receive an update sooner rather than later. Given that new content could provide a boost to Helldivers 2's overall player engagement, it appears to be a sound move ahead of its arrival on a new platform.
As Xbox players finally get their hands on Helldivers 2, PlayStation players can look forward to another Xbox-owned title landing on PS5. In an unprecedented move, Gears of War will become available on Sony's console for the first time ever, with the launch of Gears of War: Reloaded on August 26.
