To start Roll, Roll, Roll Your Onigiri quest in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, follow the beach around Summer Shores on the Summer Region map until you reach the small slope near the Open Pavilion Dragon Statue, as pictured on the map above.
On approaching, a cutscene triggers, showing you and Woolby talking to a villager about the strange, singing hole in the ground, followed by the option to roll something inside. Specifically, you'll need to make an Onigiri, and then feed it to the hole, which you can do by selecting the Onigiri recipe in the inventory menu that appears when interacting with the hole.
After feeding the hole Onigiri, you'll get a reward when choosing between a big or little basket and unlocking the Roll, Roll, Roll Your Onigiri quest, categorized as an Azuma side quest in the game. Subsequent Roll, Roll, Roll Your Onigiri spots will then ask for a specific Onigiri recipe.
Big Basket Vs. Little Basket Choice
Unlike other big decisions in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, the only difference between choosing the big or little basket is what secondary reward you get at each Onigiri location. If you select the big basket at the Summer Region location that triggers the quest, you'll get Strong Thread, but picking the little basket gives you three pieces of Silver. However, whichever basket you choose, you'll still receive the Butter Roll Recipe as the primary reward (a level 1 cooking recipe made from flour and butter).

You can find each location by its Onigiri map icon, with each hole requiring a specific Onigiri recipe, as listed below and pictured on the maps above:
- West of Guardians Grove in the Spring Region - Miso Onigiri.
- Right of the Western Knoll dragon shrine in the Autumn Region - Salmon Onigiri.
- Near the pond north of the Underground Wayside Shrine in the Winter Region - Tempura Shrimp Onigiri
- Near the Dragon Shrine on Dawnbreak Island - Bonito Flake Onigiri
- On the small island in the Heavenly Realm east of the Heavenly Entrance Dragon Shrine - Greatest Grilled Onigiri. However, you will need to use the Sacred Staff and Sacred Parasol to navigate the waters to reach it. You can obtain the Sacred Staff once you reach The God of the Heavens in Hiding main story quest.
At each location, you'll be asked to choose between a big or little basket as your reward. While most of the above Onigiri recipes are somewhat straightforward to unlock, some are a little trickier to find. To get the Miso Onigiri recipe, you'll need to activate the small frog statue on the group of islands opposite Summer Shores and the Open Pavilion dragon save statue in the Summer Region map. However, to reach the frog statue, you need to use the Sacred Parosol on the wind current, a Sacred Treasure you unlock when reaching Winter Village.
To get the Greatest Grilled Onigiri recipe, you'll need to reach level 6 friendship with Matsuri to unlock the ability to cook together. Afterward, head to Iroha's Teahouse or any Teahouse, then choose the Grilled Onigiri recipe to cook together with Matsuri, which should have a chef's hat icon indicating it leads to a unique recipe. After cooking the Grilled Onigiri recipe with Matsuri, you'll automatically unlock the Greatest Grilled Onigiri recipe, a unique recipe that you can then cook using Onigiri and Soy Sauce.
Although you can cook Onigiri, it's also possible to collect basic Onigiri near shrines across Azuma. Like other recipes in the game, you can cook Onigiri at bonfires in addition to Teahouses. There is also a cooking station to unlock at the main Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter Village Shrine once you've fixed the roof.
