Jagex has released a brand-new roadmap for RuneScape 3 content, giving players a glimpse of what they can expect from the MMO over the next 12 months. While the roadmap details Jagex's plans for RuneScape 3 until early 2026, the developer has also hinted at some of the content arriving beyond this, too.

RuneScape is one of the oldest MMORPGs that is still active today. The game has been a staple of the MMO genre ever since its 2001 release, and has gone through many different iterations over the years. There have been plenty of missteps on Jagex's part along the way, with controversial updates aplenty. Through it all, the developer has remained committed to bringing new content to the title, which is why it's often regarded as one of the best MMOs ever made. Ironically, one of its biggest competitors is itself, with 2013's Old School RuneScape continuing to rise in popularity all the time.

RuneScape Survey Sparks Outrage

A new RuneScape survey sent out by developer Jagex causes mass outrage in the game's online community.

In a blog post, Jagex has detailed all the major pieces of content coming to RuneScape 3 by early 2026. The updates include several new quests in the Return to the Desert questline, as well as increases to the maximum skill level of Runecrafting, Crafting, and Thieving. Later this year, a brand-new RuneScape combat boss called Amascut will launch, intended to be beaten with a group. Autumn will also add Leagues, a seasonal game mode with massive XP rates previously exclusive to Old School RuneScape.

RuneScape 3 Roadmap Details Content Until Early 2026

The biggest announcement of all was Havenhythe, a brand-new area expansion arriving in 2026. The area will be expanded over the course of next year, with Jagex promising "an epic, year-long adventure." The developer shared plenty of concept art for Havenhythe in the blog post, and the early looks are very interesting. New lands usually mean new RuneScape quests to complete, which will hopefully be the case with Havenhythe.

Beyond 2026, Jagex went on to confirm that early work is underway designing the next RuneScape 3 skill. The previous skill, Necromancy, was a massive step forward for the game's combat, released back in 2023. This new skill won't be ready for a while yet, with Jagex stating, "we're still in the early stages of a very long path ahead of us." Meanwhile, over in Old School RuneScape, work continues as the developer prepares to release the Alpha for its first-ever new skill in Sailing.
