RuneScape: Dragonwilds can be played solo, but it's best experienced with a group of friends so players can divide the workload and more efficiently explore Ashenfall. The multiplayer in RuneScape: Dragonwilds works similarly to other survival games, but there are some unique features that set it apart from the competition.
Since RuneScape: Dragonwilds shares DNA with one of the grindiest MMOs around, co-op play allows players to specialize so they can focus on leveling up specific skills while their friends focus on others. The maximum player count in RuneScape: Dragonwilds may be lower than it is in other contemporary survival games, but a group of four can still progress through the game much faster than a solo player.

How to Play With Friends in RuneScape: Dragonwilds
To play with friends in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, players can create a friends or public world at the main menu. To join a friend's world, all players need to do is select the friends tab when loading into the game instead of choosing one of their own worlds.
The world states in RuneScape: Dragonwilds aren't permanent, so a solo world doesn't have to stay solo forever. If players want to open up their Dragonwilds world to other players, they can click the "Edit Settings" button before loading in. There, the world can be changed to solo, friends, or public. Other features like friendly fire (PVP) can also be toggled on and off in this menu.
Dragonwilds uses Epic Online Services as the framework for its online multiplayer, so players must accept all of the Epic-related messages that pop up when they boot up the game for the first time. It's required for co-op play to function. The Epic Games Store launcher isn't required at all, though.
All progression in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is tied to characters, not specific worlds. That means players can join an online server and retain all of the skills and equipment that they obtained from other worlds, including solo games. Resources stored in a player's inventory will also follow them from world to world. To start fresh, players can create a new character from the main menu.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is grindier than other contemporary survival games, so it's great that progress follows players between worlds. Cooperating with other players and dividing the workload between friends is key to surviving Ashenfall in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, so players shouldn't be afraid to hop into public servers every now and then if they don't have a steady group of four to share their world with.
