Just like most other survival games, RuneScape: Dragonwilds has a ton of different ores and resources for players to mine. As players begin their journey across Ashenfall, they'll start with basic stone and bone tools that aren't very efficient at chopping down trees, mining stone, or defeating enemies. Clay is the key to upgrading tools in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, as it unlocks new crafting stations that reward players with even better equipment.

Clay can't be found in the starting areas of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, though, so players need to gear up and prepare a bit before they can safely venture into the regions where Clay spawns. Clay can also be hard to find since its natural habitat is dark and murky, so finding an efficient farming route is tricky. Thankfully, there are a few spots where players can easily stock up on stacks of Clay for their Pottery Wheels and Kilns.

Where to Find Clay in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape Dragonwilds Clay Map

Clay is found near water sources in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. It doesn't spawn in early game areas like the Temple Woods or Bramblemead Valley, though. Clay only appears in regions like the Whispering Swamp, which players will visit after conquering the main goblin camp in Bramblemead Valley as a part of the Dragon Slayer quest from the Wise Old Man.

The Whispering Swamp region is freely accessible even before completing this quest, however, so players can head north and explore the swamp whenever they're ready. There are quite a few dangerous enemies that can catch players off guard in the Whispering Swamp, particularly Putrid Rats that inflict poison with their attacks, so it's a good idea to bring some healing potions and Wardstones just in case.

The best places to farm Clay in RuneScape: Dragonwilds are the western and eastern ends of the Whispering Swamp. These parts of the swamp are comprised of several small strips of land poking out of the murky water, which is the perfect environment for Clay deposits. Practically every exposed piece of land will have Clay to harvest, and the Rocksplosion spell can make quick work of these clumped-up Clay deposits. With the help of a Lodestone, all that Clay can be quickly teleported back to base, too.

What is Clay Used for in RuneScape: Dragonwilds?

RuneScape Dragonwilds Clay Node

Clay has all sorts of uses in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. A Pottery Wheel can shape it into vessels that can then be fired in a Kiln. These vessels can be used to craft potions at a Brewing Cauldron, which will help players survive the more dangerous regions of Ashenfall.

Clay is also required to craft a Furnace, an important crafting station that grants access to more advanced tools and equipment. A Furnace allows players to smelt Copper and Tin ore so they can be used to craft stronger tools. Furnaces use Charcoal as fuel, which is obtained by burning wood in a Kiln. Clay is the key to all of these upgrades in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, so players should stock up on as much of it as they can before moving on with more difficult quests.
