Rust: 8 Things New Players Should Know Before Starting
Rust isn't the easiest game to get into as a total newcomer. Here's what players should keep in mind before spawning into its cutthroat world.
Players can brew teas at a Mixing Table to benefit from their unique short-term buffs. Categorized into three tiers: Basic, Advanced, and Pure, players must combine four lower-tier variants in order to craft one higher-tier variant. Crafting the top-tier tea demands a considerable amount of time and resources but can be well worth it for some of the best teas. Here is a ranking of all the teas that can be crafted in Rust, ensuring that players know which to grind for.
10 Anti-Rad Tea
Slightly Improves Players' Resistance To Radiation Damage
- Ingredients: Red Berries, Green Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases Radiation Damage Resistance for 30 minutes.
- Basic: Radiation Damage Resistance +15%, Advanced: Radiation Damage Resistance +30%, Pure: Radiation Damage Resistance +45%.
The Anti-Rad Tea increases players' resistance to radiation damage, with the most potent variation, the Pure Anti-Rad Tea, providing a +45% increase in damage resistance. Much like Anti-Radiation Pills, however, the Anti-Rad Tea is generally one of the least valuable teas, though it can be situationally useful.
At Launch Site, one of the best high-tier Rust monuments, the high radiation levels penetrate even a Hazmat Suit, so players can use the Anti-Rad Tea to fight off some of the damage. Still, it's hard to justify growing rare Green Berries for this lackluster tea when chugging water in high radiation zones typically suffices.
9 Cooling Tea
Combats Extreme Heat But Is Rarely Necessary
- Ingredients: Red Berries, Yellow Berries
- Unique Boost: Decreases the player's temperature for 30 minutes.
The Cooling Tea was introduced with the cooking update in order to allow players to combat excessive heat in the Desert biome. The Cooling Tea reduces the player's core temperature by -10°C, allowing one to avoid overheating in extreme temperatures.
5 Best Survival Loot Games
Survival games are a lot of fun, and collecting loot is key to having an advantage. Here are some of the best survival loot games currently available.
While the Cooling Tea is not as essential as the Warming Tea, as heat in Rust does not pose as much of a threat as the cold, players who like to live in the Desert might benefit from its temperature-regulating effects.
8 Harvesting Tea
Boosts Yield Of Animal Fat And Other Natural Resources
- Ingredients: Green Berries, Yellow Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases the amount of resources received from harvesting corpses for 20 minutes.
Animal and human bodies yield resources such as Leather, Bone Fragments, Cloth, and Animal Fat. Animal Fat is particularly useful for crafting Low-Grade Fuel, which is an essential resource needed to power vehicles and generate electricity.
The Harvesting Tea boosts that resource yield from harvesting corpses by +50%, which can be handy for players who find themselves short on low-grade fuel. Still, it is a rather niche buff that, for most players, won't be worth the grind of farming for.
7 Scrap Tea
Increases Amount Of Scrap Looted From Barrels
- Ingredients: Yellow Berries, White Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases the amount of Scrap received from barrels for 30 minutes.
- Basic: Scrap yield +50%, Advanced: Scrap yield +100%, Pure: Scrap yield +200%.
Scrap Tea temporarily increases the amount of Scrap players receive when destroying barrels that spawn near roads, monuments, and junkpiles. Scrap is the main currency in Rust, which players need to research and craft items and can also use to purchase items from NPCs or other players.
The Pure Scrap Tea, the highest-tier Scrap Tea variant, boosts Scrap yield by a massive 350%. However, this boost is only applied to Scrap received from barrels, not from crates or recycling, which makes it far less practical and less worth farming White Berries for.
6 Warming Tea
Combats Freezing Temperatures (Useful In The Snow Biome)
- Ingredients: Red Berries, Yellow Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases player's temperature for 30 minutes.
When a player's temperature drops below 5°C, they start taking damage over time, which can be deadly if they are exposed for too long. The Warming Tea combats the Cold debuff by temporarily increasing the player's core temperature by 10°C+.
The Warming Tea comes in very handy at night or when it's raining. It can also be a game-changer for players living in the Snow biome, who will now be able to wear a full metal set without freezing.
5 Healing Tea
Heals The Player Over Time
- Ingredients: Red Berries
- Unique Boost: Gradually heals the player.
- Basic: Health over time +30, Advanced: Instant Health +5 and Health over time +50, Pure: Instant Health +10 and Health over time +75.
The Healing Tea does as its name suggests; it gradually heals the player over time, with the higher variants also providing some instant health. Unlike Syringes or Bandages, Healing Teas do not suffer from lengthy healing animations, and they don't need to be equipped to be consumed.
Players can also stack teas in groups of 10 in their inventory, which makes them easy to spam. However, Healing Teas do not stop bleeding like Bandages and Med Kits, which makes them less effective during active combat.
4 Crafting Quality Tea
Increases Armor Insert Slots On Crafted Items
- Ingredients: Green Berries, White Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases the odds of a higher-quality crafting outcome by +50% for 5 minutes.
Armor Inserts are a new addition to Rust. Armor items crafted by players now have a chance to add 0–3 slots to the crafted item. These slots allow players to modify their gear, upgrading the armor's protection stats against different damage types, such as radiation, projectile, or cold.
The number of slots a piece of armor receives when crafted is randomized, but players can temporarily improve their odds by 50% by consuming the Crafting Quality Tea. For players who really want to customize their loadout, the Crafting Quality Tea will boost their chances of max armor slots on their items.
3 Max Health Tea
Boosts Players Max Health To 120 HP
- Ingredients: Red Berries, Yellow Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases Maximum Health for 20 minutes.
- Basic: Max Health +5, Advanced: Max Health +12.5, Pure: Max Health +20.
The Max Health Tea temporarily boosts the player's maximum health, with the highest-tier variant offering a massive 20+ increase to standard health capacity. This extra health can drastically boost a player's survivability. For example, with a max health of 120, a player wearing a Bandana and a Wolf Headdress can survive a headshot from a Bolt Action Rifle, one of the best guns in Rust.
Rust: The Best DLCs, Ranked
DLC packs added a great deal of flavor and variety to Rust, but these packs stood out the most for what they brought to the game.
While it's expensive and time-consuming to craft, the Pure Max Health Tea offers a much-needed short-term advantage for players trying to survive Rust's unforgiving world. For this reason, it's arguably one of the best teas in the game.
2 Wood Tea
Increases Wood Output From Farming Trees
- Ingredients: Red Berries, Blue Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases wood yield when farming trees for 30 minutes.
- Basic: Wood Yield +50%, Advanced: Wood Yield +100%, Pure: Wood Yield +200%.
Wood is an essential resource in Rust, needed for building, crafting, and fueling furnaces. Thankfully, Wood Tea makes stockpiling that basic resource much easier. Wood Tea provides an extra percentage of wood yield when farming trees.
The highest-tier variant, Pure Wood Tea, boosts wood output by a very substantial 200%, which can dramatically transform a player's harvesting efforts. If used in combination with a Chainsaw, players can quickly get a full inventory of wood.
1 Ore Tea
Boosts Stone, Sulfur, And Metal Yield When Farming Nodes
- Ingredients: Yellow Berries, Blue Berries
- Unique Boost: Increases ore yield for 30 minutes.
- Basic: Ore Yield +20%, Advanced: Ore Yield +35%, Pure: Ore Yield +50%.
The Ore Tea is one of the most popular and valuable teas in Rust. When a player consumes the Ore Tea, their yield from farming Stone, Sulfur, and Metal nodes is increased.
The highest-tier variant, the Pure Ore tea, provides a massive +50% buff to Ore harvesting yield for 30 minutes. If players invest in the pricey Pure Ore Tea, they should pair it with a quality tool, such as a Salvaged Icepick or Jackhammer, for maximum yield potential and, if possible, consume a Bear Pie to stack their effects.
